004414 Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent, two years experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing, or mechanical equipment, and possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Job Description Summary The University of South Alabama's Maintenance Department is seeking to hire a Maintenance Mechanic I. Interested candidates should apply to be considered. Essential Functions Installs, maintains and repairs faucets, flush valves, commodes, lavatories and other sanitary fixtures and equipment. Installs, maintains and repairs electric lighting, outlets and related electrical and mechanical equipment. Performs a variety of painting, carpentry work, and flooring and ceiling repairs using stationary and handheld power tools. Reads floor plans and basic structural drawings. Draws illustrations of work that is to be performed. Estimates and order materials for assigned projects. Performs rough and finished carpentry to include the erection of all types of walls, ceilings and roofs built from wood or metal materials which may require climbing to various heights. Hangs, finishes and repairs drywall. Builds and sets concrete. Performs cleanup of all construction sites. Installs and repairs various types of windows and hardware. Operates various equipment to include aerial lift and fork lifts. Uses a university vehicle to travel to various job sites and transport materials. Moves supplies and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs. Complies with safety regulations. Regular and prompt attendance. Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required. Related duties as required.
