Our client, a large steel manufacturer, is looking to hire a full time direct hire Mechanical Maintenance Inspector to support preventive maintenance programs located in Blytheville, Arkansas. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, as well as mechanical inspections of machinery, equipment, and facilities. The position is responsible for identifying abnormal conditions, wear, and potential failures in a timely manner. The Mechanical Maintenance Inspector contributes to maintaining equipment availability, reliability, and safe operation through proper maintenance execution, failure diagnosis, documentation of findings, and follow-up of required corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on industrial machinery and equipment. Inspect equipment to identify wear, damage, leaks, abnormal conditions, and potential failure points. Detect and report conditions that could result in equipment failures or unplanned downtime. Diagnose mechanical failures and determine the appropriate corrective action. Perform equipment disassembly, assembly, adjustment, alignment, lubrication, and component repair. Work on motors, pumps, gearboxes/reducers, bearings, couplings, valves, transmissions, and other mechanical equipment. Provide maintenance and troubleshooting support for hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Perform welding, fabrication, modification, and repair of metal components when required. Conduct equipment inspections according to established maintenance plans. Properly document inspection findings and maintenance activities. Identify abnormal conditions and recommend corrective actions before they develop into equipment failures or production downtime. Participate in failure analysis and root cause analysis (RCA) when required. Follow up on repairs and verify that equipment is returned to proper operating condition. Maintain accurate maintenance records in the applicable system, including SAP PM, when applicable. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in good working condition. Strictly follow all applicable safety procedures, work permits, LOTO, hot work, confined space, and PPE requirements. Report unsafe conditions and potential hazards immediately. Participate in scheduled maintenance activities, shutdowns, and emergency maintenance as required.

Required Technical Knowledge:

Industrial mechanical maintenance. Preventive and corrective maintenance. Mechanical troubleshooting and failure diagnosis. Equipment assembly and disassembly. Alignment of rotating equipment. Bearings, couplings, transmissions, and power transmission systems. Pumps, motors, and gearboxes/reducers. Lubrication practices and basic component condition assessment. Reading and interpretation of mechanical drawings and technical manuals.

Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems:

Basic principles of hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Leak identification and repair. Knowledge of pumps, cylinders, valves, hoses, fittings, and actuators. Basic troubleshooting of pressure, flow, and system performance issues.

Welding & Fabrication:

Practical knowledge of welding processes. Ability to perform repair and fabrication of metal components. Safe operation of welding and cutting equipment. Ability to determine when a component should be repaired, modified, or replaced.

Inspection & Troubleshooting:

Visual and dimensional inspection. Identification of equipment wear and abnormal conditions. Use of mechanical measuring instruments. Ability to identify potential failure conditions before they result in equipment downtime. Ability to document inspection findings and maintenance recommendations. Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to supervisors and maintenance/engineering personnel. Experience & Qualifications Demonstrated experience in industrial mechanical maintenance. Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance. Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial machinery. Practical experience with hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and welding. Experience with rotating equipment and mechanical power transmission systems. Experience with pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, and related equipment. Previous experience in steel mills, steel manufacturing, or other companies within the steel industry is highly desirable. Experience working in continuous-operation industrial environments is preferred. Experience participating in planned maintenance shutdowns is desirable. Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and preferably SAP PM. Ability to read mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and maintenance procedures.

Candidate Profile:

We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Inspector with strong industrial maintenance experience and hands-on knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding. The ideal candidate will be capable of not only performing mechanical repairs but also inspecting equipment, identifying abnormal conditions, diagnosing potential failures, documenting findings, and recommending corrective actions before failures result in unplanned downtime.

Experience needed:

Candidates with previous experience in Steel mills or steel manufacturing companies are highly desirable. Experience with rotating equipment, pumps, motors, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, welding, shutdowns, and SAP PM will be considered valuable. The position requires a strong commitment to Safety, Equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, and operational availability, as well as proficiency with basic office applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
