Job Description

Job Summary:
The Physical Plant and Maintenance Technician is a valued team member of the Physical Plant and Maintenance Department, which is responsible for ensuring that all physical elements of the museum are properly functioning and the presentation of the building, grounds and exhibits are up to the quality and standards of a first-class science museum. A successful candidate is a team player who is willing to help other team members as needed and is willing to guide, inform and assist guests in a cheerful and engaging manner. Superior guest service is the primary goal of all team members of Mid-America Science Museum.

Physical Plant and Maintenance Reports to:
Director of Physical Plant and Maintenance Education:
High school diploma or GED at minimum.
Experience Required:
At least 1 year working in a related field or formal education path or training.
Description of Duties:
Responsible for overall museum appearance, cleanliness, and working order of infrastructure and exhibits. Upholds and maintains preventive maintenance schedule and logs for all exhibits, equipment, facility, and grounds. Scans logs into Museum's digital storage. Provides prompt response and resolution to requests for maintenance or repairs from all museum departments. Provides light housekeeping duties throughout open hours including, but not limited to, light vacuuming, window washing, bathroom touch-up, and trash removal. Performs grounds maintenance, including, but not limited to, trash removal, walkway cleaning, and mowing and weed-eating the grounds. Maintains the organization and auditing of all departmental tools and supplies. Provides security oversight using the Museum's security camera system. Follows museum opening and closing procedures and assumes responsibility for the safety of the staff and the facility. Works with traveling exhibit firms to prepare for and install traveling exhibits. Participates in all training exercises provided by the museum. Must work proportionate share of after-hours events. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Special Skills:
Must be well organized. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to lift 50 + pounds. Knowledge of hands tools and heavy equipment operation preferred. Must work weekends.
