Overview The Campus Maintenance Technician plays an important role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of the Ocean Institute's campus and facilities. Working under the direction of the Facilities Manager, this position assists with day-to-day maintenance, basic repairs, and general upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment. The Campus Maintenance Technician helps ensure that all campus spaces are well-maintained, welcoming, and ready to support educational programs, visitors, and community events Essential Duties and Responsibilities Receive, prioritize, and complete assigned work orders in a timely manner using the Institute's maintenance tracking software (e.g., MaintainX) Perform general maintenance and light repair tasks (e.g., painting, patching, replacing fixtures, etc.) Complete basic, non-licensed plumbing and electrical tasks (e.g., unclog drains, replace bulbs, resebreakers) under guidance of Facilities Manager Assemble, move, and install furniture, signage, and fixtures as needed Maintain cleanliness and organization of workshops, storage areas, and tools Conduct routine inspections, document findings, and open work orders for issues identified Assist with groundskeeping tasks such as sweeping walkways, removing debris, and maintaining outdoor areas Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks (e.g., fixture and equipment checks) per the established PM calendar, and document completion in the maintenance tracking system Safely operate hand and power tools, ladders, and light equipment Support vendors and contractors working onsite as directed Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment Other duties as assigned Education, Experience, and Qualifications Basic knowledge of hand tools and general maintenance skills Ability to use (or quickly learn) a work order/maintenance tracking system to manage and close out assigned tasks via a provided laptop, tablet or smartphone Ability to follow instructions, prioritize multiple work orders, and work independently once tasks are assigned Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in various conditions Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor Prior handyman, maintenance, or custodial experience preferred but not required Prior experience with facilities management software (e.g., MaintainX, etc.) preferred but not required Computer & Equipment Skills Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and an online maintenance tracking system.
