Maintenance Technician

President/Owner Position Overview MacCallum House is seeking an experienced and dependable Maintenance Technician to support the safety, appearance, functionality, and overall upkeep of our Mendocino properties. This hands-on position is responsible for routine maintenance, preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, minor repairs, and property improvement projects throughout guest rooms, restaurant and kitchen areas, common spaces, offices, employee areas, grounds, and building exteriors. The ideal candidate is organized, resourceful, safety-conscious, and comfortable working independently while maintaining clear communication with management. Because work will often be performed in active guest and hospitality areas, professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail are essential. Key Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance and repairs involving plumbing fixtures, lighting, doors, locks, windows, walls, flooring, furniture, appliances, and other property equipment. Complete basic carpentry, painting, patching, caulking, hardware replacement, and general repair projects. Troubleshoot maintenance concerns and determine when work requires a qualified outside contractor. Conduct scheduled inspections of guest rooms, restaurant and kitchen areas, public spaces, offices, employee areas, grounds, and building exteriors. Identify and address maintenance needs before they become larger operational or safety concerns. Assist with preventive maintenance for appliances, heating and ventilation equipment, plumbing systems, lighting, drains, and other property systems. Replace filters, batteries, light bulbs, hardware, and other routine maintenance items. Maintain accurate preventive maintenance schedules, work orders, inspection records, and repair documentation. Respond promptly and professionally to maintenance requests from management, employees, and guests. Complete work in occupied and guest-facing areas with courtesy, discretion, and minimal disruption. Communicate repair status, delays, safety concerns, and recommended next steps to management. Coordinate maintenance work with housekeeping, the front desk, restaurant, kitchen, events, and other operational departments. Assist with furniture movement, equipment setup, event preparation, deliveries, storage organization, and other property projects. Help maintain walkways, patios, parking areas, signage, fences, outdoor lighting, and building exteriors. Monitor exterior areas for drainage concerns, trip hazards, damaged steps, loose railings, lighting issues, and other needed repairs. Support seasonal preparation for storms, high winds, power outages, and changing weather conditions. Properly operate, clean, secure, and maintain company tools and equipment. Coordinate with approved vendors and contractors as directed. Travel between all three MacCallum House properties based on assignments and operational needs. Safety Responsibilities Follow the MacCallum House Injury and Illness Prevention Program and all applicable workplace safety procedures. Use required personal protective equipment and follow established safety practices when using ladders, tools, chemicals, and equipment. Review and follow product labels and Safety Data Sheets before using chemicals or hazardous materials. Immediately report injuries, near misses, unsafe conditions, damaged tools, equipment failures, water intrusion, electrical concerns, or significant property damage. Maintain clean, organized, and safely secured maintenance and storage areas. Perform only work that is within your training, qualifications, and legal scope. Qualifications At least two years of relevant building, facilities, hotel, restaurant, residential, or general property maintenance experience. Practical knowledge of common hand tools, power tools, and basic repair techniques. Experience with basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, appliance troubleshooting, lighting, and minor electrical repairs. Ability to identify maintenance and safety concerns and recognize when specialized assistance is needed. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize requests across multiple properties. Professional and courteous communication skills, especially when working around guests. Ability to work independently while keeping management informed of progress, delays, and concerns. Basic ability to use a smartphone, text messaging, email, digital photographs, and electronic work-order systems. Dependable attendance and reliable communication during scheduled working hours. Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record when driving is required for assigned duties. Reliable means of traveling between MacCallum House properties. Hospitality, historic-property, restaurant, or multi-property maintenance experience is highly desirable. Relevant maintenance, trade, safety, or equipment-operation certifications are also a plus. Physical and Work Requirements The Maintenance Technician must be able to perform the following activities, with or without reasonable accommodation: Regularly stand, walk, climb stairs, reach, grasp, push, pull, bend, crouch, and kneel. Work in confined or elevated areas when necessary. Safely climb and work from ladders when trained and authorized. Use hands and arms to operate tools, equipment, fixtures, and maintenance materials. Lift, carry, position, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds independently. Move heavier items with assistance or appropriate equipment. Work safely indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions. Visually inspect rooms, equipment, structures, walkways, and completed repairs. Hear and respond to alarms, equipment sounds, verbal instructions, and workplace communications. Work is performed throughout active hospitality, lodging, restaurant, kitchen, office, storage, outdoor, and maintenance environments. The position may involve exposure to dust, noise, odors, chemicals, equipment, uneven surfaces, and changing weather conditions. Compensation and Schedule The pay range for this position is $25.00-$35.00 per hour . The starting rate will be based on relevant experience, demonstrated skills, qualifications, certifications, internal equity, and the operational needs of MacCallum House. This is an hourly, nonexempt position eligible for overtime compensation in accordance with applicable law. The schedule may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business and property needs. Occasional responses to urgent maintenance situations outside the regular schedule may be required. All time worked will be recorded and compensated. Authorized work-related travel and necessary business expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
