Job Description

About Common Ground Hospitality Common Ground Hospitality is a successful and growing multi-location restaurant group with operations throughout the Bethany Beach, Delaware and Ocean City, Maryland areas. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Facilities & Maintenance Engineer to oversee the maintenance, operation, preventive care, and overall condition of the equipment and mechanical systems throughout our restaurant group. This is a year-round position for an experienced professional who understands the demands of restaurant operations and takes a proactive approach to maintenance. Our goal is not simply to repair equipment when it breaks. We are looking for someone who can develop and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance program that keeps our facilities and equipment operating properly, reduces downtime, extends equipment life, and helps prevent costly emergency repairs. Key Responsibilities The Facilities & Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for the year-round maintenance and operation of equipment and mechanical systems throughout our locations, including: Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform repairs on commercial restaurant hot and cold equipment. Diagnose and address basic HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical issues within the individual's qualifications and abilities. Perform routine inspections of restaurant equipment and mechanical systems to identify potential problems before failures occur. Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventive maintenance schedule for all locations. Ensure equipment is properly serviced, maintained, cleaned, and cared for according to manufacturer recommendations and company standards. Maintain accurate service and maintenance records for major equipment and systems. Track equipment condition, repair history, warranties, expected useful life, and recommended replacement schedules. Coordinate seasonal opening, closing, winterization, and startup procedures as needed. Prioritize and respond appropriately to urgent equipment and facility issues while minimizing disruption to restaurant operations. Determine when repairs can appropriately be handled internally and when a qualified outside contractor or service provider is required. Schedule and coordinate outside contractors, technicians, and vendors when specialized service is necessary. Communicate effectively with contractors regarding diagnosis, scope of work, scheduling, pricing, and completion of repairs. Review service recommendations and help ensure outside repairs are necessary, appropriate, and cost-effective. Maintain relationships with qualified service providers throughout the region. Assist leadership with evaluating major equipment repairs versus replacement. Help develop annual maintenance, repair, and capital equipment priorities. Maintain an appropriate inventory of commonly needed parts, filters, supplies, and maintenance materials. Work closely with General Managers and restaurant leadership to ensure maintenance concerns are communicated and addressed appropriately. Train and educate restaurant leadership and appropriate employees on proper equipment use, cleaning, basic maintenance, and procedures that can help prevent unnecessary equipment damage. Maintain organized work areas, tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies. Assist with renovations, equipment installations, restaurant improvements, and other company projects as needed. Maintain compliance with applicable safety requirements, manufacturer specifications, and company procedures. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have: 10+ years of relevant maintenance, facilities, mechanical, or commercial restaurant equipment experience preferred. Significant hands-on experience with commercial kitchen hot and cold equipment . Working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, and general mechanical systems. Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities. Experience developing and following preventive maintenance schedules. Excellent organizational and scheduling skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple locations and competing priorities. Strong communication skills and the ability to work professionally with restaurant managers, ownership, contractors, vendors, and employees. Ability to determine when an issue can be safely handled internally and when a licensed or specialized contractor is required. Strong understanding of the importance of preventive maintenance and proper equipment cleaning and care. Ability to maintain accurate service records and documentation. Ability to work independently and take ownership of the company's maintenance needs. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between locations in Southern Delaware and Ocean City, Maryland. Ability to perform the physical requirements associated with restaurant facilities and equipment maintenance. Appropriate technical certifications, licenses, or trade credentials are a plus. What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is proactive rather than reactive . The right person will take ownership of our facilities and equipment and understand that successful maintenance means preventing problems whenever possible—not simply responding after equipment fails. You should be comfortable walking into a restaurant, identifying potential issues, developing a plan, prioritizing repairs and maintenance, communicating with management, and following through until the work is completed correctly. Because our business includes both year-round and seasonal operations , organization and planning are extremely important. Equipment must be properly maintained throughout the year and appropriately prepared for seasonal startup, shutdown, and periods of heavy use. This position requires someone who is dependable, organized, hands-on, resourceful, and able to communicate effectively with everyone from restaurant employees and General Managers to ownership and outside contractors. Compensation & Benefits Starting base salary: $65,000 annually Full-time, year-round position Medical benefits Paid Time Off (PTO) 401(k) with company match Opportunity to play an important role within a successful and growing restaurant organization Stable year-round employment within a multi-location hospitality group Schedule & Availability This is a full-time position supporting multiple restaurant locations. While the position will have a regular work schedule, restaurant operations occasionally require flexibility when urgent mechanical or equipment issues arise. The successful candidate must be able to prioritize emergencies appropriately while also maintaining a structured preventive maintenance schedule designed to minimize after-hours and emergency repairs. Join Common Ground Hospitality This is an opportunity for an experienced maintenance professional to take ownership of the facilities and equipment needs of an established and growing restaurant group. If you have extensive experience with commercial restaurant equipment, strong mechanical abilities, excellent organizational skills, and believe that proper preventive maintenance is the key to keeping an operation running successfully , we would like to hear from you. Apply through Indeed with your resume, three professional references, and a summary of your relevant restaurant equipment, facilities, HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical experience.
