About the Position Big Creek Plantation is seeking an experienced, dependable, and highly skilled Property Maintenance Technician / Handyman to join our team full-time. This is a hands-on position responsible for the ongoing maintenance, repair, upkeep, and improvement of the plantation's buildings, homes, structures, grounds, and outdoor areas. The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in their work, has strong troubleshooting and repair skills, can work independently, and understands the importance of maintaining a large private property to a high standard. The Maintenance Technician will work closely with and report directly to the General Manager , helping ensure that the property remains safe, functional, attractive, and well maintained. Key Responsibilities Property & Building Maintenance Perform routine and preventative maintenance throughout the plantation. Inspect buildings, homes, structures, and property systems for maintenance needs. Troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of issues which may include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, doors, fixtures, hardware, and general building maintenance. Repair and maintain interior and exterior structures. Perform minor renovations, upgrades, and remodeling projects. Assist with larger capital improvement projects as directed by the General Manager. Identify potential maintenance issues before they become larger or more costly problems. Maintain accurate records of completed repairs, maintenance needs, and materials used. Coordinate with outside contractors and service providers when specialized work is required. Grounds & Outdoor Maintenance Maintain the appearance and functionality of plantation grounds and outdoor areas. Maintain fences, gates, walkways, driveways, decks, outdoor structures, and other property features. Assist with seasonal property preparation and storm-related cleanup and repairs. Maintain and repair outdoor fixtures and amenities. Operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment safely and appropriately. General Responsibilities Respond promptly to maintenance requests from the General Manager. Prioritize and complete work orders and ongoing maintenance projects. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Properly care for and maintain company tools and equipment. Maintain an inventory of commonly used maintenance supplies and communicate when materials need to be ordered. Help develop and implement preventative maintenance routines. Work professionally and respectfully around property owners, guests, employees, contractors, and other individuals on the property. Perform other property maintenance and improvement duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
Proven experience working as a handyman, maintenance technician, property maintenance professional, or in a similar hands-on trade. Strong general knowledge of building maintenance and repair. Experience with basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, drywall, and general construction/repair preferred. Ability to troubleshoot problems and determine practical solutions. Ability to safely operate common hand tools and power tools. Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Reliable, punctual, and dependable. Physically capable of performing the duties required, including lifting, bending, climbing ladders, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred:
Experience maintaining large private estates, plantations, farms, ranches, resorts, or other large properties. Experience with landscaping and grounds maintenance. Experience with preventative maintenance programs. Experience overseeing or working alongside outside contractors. Basic knowledge of HVAC, irrigation, generators, or other property systems. Construction, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or other trade experience. Ability to safely operate tractors, mowers, utility vehicles, and other outdoor equipment. The ideal candidate is resourceful, mechanically inclined, proactive, and takes ownership of the property they care for . You should be the type of person who notices a problem before someone has to point it out, figures out how to fix it, and takes pride in leaving things better than you found them.
Compensation & Benefits Pay:
$15.00 minimum depending on experience Full-time, year-round position Health/dental/vision benefit options Paid time off Paid holidays Schedule Full-time, Monday-Friday, with occasional evenings, weekends, or emergency maintenance needs depending on property requirements.
