We operate and maintain a large state of the art surface water treatment facility supplying potable water to a population of over 285,000, in Lake County Illinois. Position Summary Maintains, inspects, diagnoses, and repairs water treatment and related facilities and equipment to support reliable operation. Performs recurring maintenance and assignments from the Maintenance Supervisor. Provides guidance and serves as a mentor to less experienced maintenance employees. Work is evaluated through equipment condition, maintenance records, performance measures, and supervisory observation. Job Specific Duties Inspect and perform preventive maintenance of plant equipment such as piping, valves, pumps, motors, motor starters, electrical power distribution equipment, generators, chemical feed equipment, tanks, mixers, HVAC equipment (boilers, air conditioners, air handlers and dehumidifiers) and building facilities. Diagnose and repair mechanical systems, including compressors, pumps, piping, valves, mixers, chemical feed equipment, tanks, engines, and HVAC equipment (boilers, air conditioners, air handlers and dehumidifiers). Troubleshoot and repair assigned electrical and control equipment, including motors, drives, starters, relays, power panels, motor control centers, switchgear, feeder breakers, transformers, and programmable logic controllers, within Agency procedures and applicable safety requirements. Use the Agency's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to document inspections, work performed, parts used, and time worked Request, receive, track, stock, and organize maintenance materials and supplies. Maintain clean and orderly work areas and properly store equipment and supplies. Perform other related duties as assigned. Job Specific Competency Requirements Strong electrical electrical gear, wiring, and equipment including motors & drives. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment used in water treatment facilities. Ability to diagnose equipment problems using engineering drawings, schematics, operation and maintenance manuals, observations, and relevant experience. Ability to perform the essential physical tasks of maintenance work, including lifting and carrying equipment and materials; walking, standing, bending, crouching, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work at Agency facilities throughout Lake County and, when assigned and properly trained and equipped, in confined spaces, excavations, and at elevated work locations, including water towers. Ability to meet applicable medical evaluation, fit-testing, training, and use requirements under the Agency's Respiratory Protection Program A valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicles operated is required. This position requires driving Agency vehicles to inspect, operate, and maintain water system facilities, transport tools and equipment, and respond to operational emergencies. Driving is an essential function of the position and is necessary to perform these duties. Must possess a valid driver's license at all times and have the ability to obtain a class C CDL license at minimum within the first year of employment. High school diploma or equivalent and at least three years of relevant technical training and/or experience in equipment maintenance. A maintenance-related degree or certificate is preferred. General Requirements Knowledge of occupational hazards and required safety precautions; follows Agency procedures for confined space entry, lockout/tagout, chemical safety, and related work. Ability to use the tools and equipment required for assigned work, including electrical multimeters and megohmmeters. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment. Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally. Ability to use computers for maintenance records, spreadsheets, and documents, and to learn new software. Active participation in required and ongoing training. Ability to work overtime and participate in on-call duty. Ability to work independently and effectively with staff, residents, vendors, and customers.
