The Public Works Maintenance portion of the job will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the maintenance of all City-owned facilities, grounds, parks, streets, water distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems. This position involves manual labor, operating a variety of maintenance equipment and vehicles, and responding to after-hours emergencies as part of an on-call rotation. The ideal candidate is a "jack-of-all-trades" who can work independently or as part of a team under varying weather conditions. Facility and Grounds Maintenance responsibilities would include but not limited to assisting with general building maintenance, infrastructure repairs, which may include plumbing, basic electrical, water line repairs, reading meters, mowing, weed eating, ball park maintenance and weed control. Prefer an individual with plumbing experience and mechanical aptitude. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in water service line repairs and have the ability to recognize and prioritize work that needs completed and can complete work without supervision. This role requires flexibility, a strong work ethic, attention to detail, the ability to communicate with the city office, and operate various tools and equipment effectively. Essential Duties and Responsibilities _ Facilities and Grounds Maintenance _ Perform routine lawn care tasks including mowing, edging, and weed control to maintain grass and landscapes at City Parks and City Owned Property Perform general maintenance and cleaning of City buildings, parks, and facilities, including minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting repairs. Operate hand tools and power equipment/tools for various maintenance activities such as trimming Trees & shrubs. Conduct snow plowing and snow removal during winter months to ensure safe access to properties. Using Shovels, snow plow, skid loader to remove snow off city sidewalks and provide access to city owned buildings.

General Public Works Duties:

Perform general street maintenance, including patching potholes, cleaning culverts and ditches, and repairing street signs Inspect and Clean out ditches and ditch tubes to ensure appropriate water run off streets and proper water flow to prevent street flooding. Operate a variety of light to moderately heavy equipment such as a backhoe, skid steer, and dump truck. Maintain equipment in good working condition through regular cleaning and basic mechanical knowledge for repairs. Respond to emergency calls at all times and work overtime/irregular hours in emergency situations (e.g., water main breaks, severe weather events).

Water and Sewer System Assistance:

Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, and meters. Assist in the cleaning and repair of sanitary and storm sewers, including clearing blockages and using rodding equipment. Perform locates of water and sewer lines when needed. Collect water and/or wastewater samples for routine testing and assist in maintaining plant operational records. Assist in minor maintenance on machinery and equipment at the water/wastewater plant facilities. Able to walk, bend over, and lift water meter lids to read and accurately record meter readings for utility billing. Experience Previous experience in building and grounds maintenance is preferred but not required. Knowledge and experience with hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in maintenance and construction work such as mini-back hoe, commercial lawn mower. Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under adverse weather conditions. Knowledge of snow plowing techniques is a plus. Valid Drivers License A strong ability to complete jobs well, correctly, with correct parts without supervision Mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot minor equipment issues will be advantageous in this role. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, establishing effective working relationships with the public and other employees. Physical Demands & Work Environment The position requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy objects (up to 50-100 pounds occasionally). Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and involves exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, and equipment with moving parts. The employee may be required to work in confined spaces and use protective safety devices.
