Job Summary:
The Judicial Maintenance Technician performs janitorial and light facilities maintenance services within the Calloway County Judicial Building, which is occupied exclusively by the Kentucky Court of Justice, including Circuit Court, District Court, and the Calloway County Circuit Court Clerk. This position supports the safe, secure, and efficient operation of judicial facilities in accordance with the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) Policies for the Operation and Maintenance of Court Facilities. While this position is employed by the Calloway County Fiscal Court, all assigned duties are performed solely within facilities occupied by the Kentucky Court of Justice. This position works closely with the Calloway County Circuit Court Clerk and other judicial officials regarding daily facility needs; however, all employment supervision, discipline, and personnel actions remain with the Calloway County Fiscal Court.
Judicial Facility Janitorial Operations:
- Perform daily cleaning of court‑occupied areas including courtrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, and public spaces.
- Empty trash receptacles, replace liners, remove litter, and dispose of waste in designated areas.
- Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms with required supplies including soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue.
- Clean and maintain breakrooms, including counters, tables, sinks, and appliances.
- Wipe down public service counters, conference tables, work surfaces, and drinking fountains.
- Vacuum high‑traffic carpeted areas and spot clean stains as needed.
- Clean and maintain exterior areas immediately adjacent to the judicial building, including entrances, sidewalks, stairs, ramps, and smoking receptacles.
Scheduled Cleaning and Maintenance Duties:
- Perform weekly floor care including vacuuming, damp mopping, and dust mopping as appropriate.
- Complete monthly cleaning tasks including dusting high and low surfaces, baseboards, vents, signage, and removal of cobwebs.
- Perform semi‑annual and annual deep cleaning tasks such as carpet extraction, floor polishing, window cleaning, and light fixture cleaning, as scheduled.
- Use approved cleaning chemicals, equipment, and tools safely and effectively.
Safety Committee Participation and Workplace Safety:
- Serve as the designated Safety Committee representative for the Calloway County Judicial Building.
- Participate in safety meetings, inspections, walkthroughs, and related safety activities.
- Assist in identifying potential workplace hazards and reporting safety concerns through established channels.
- Maintain basic knowledge of applicable workplace safety principles and OSHA standards, or demonstrate a willingness to learn and apply required safety practices related to assigned duties.
Facility Monitoring and Reporting:
- Observe and promptly report facility deficiencies including plumbing leaks, electrical issues, damaged fixtures, flooring concerns, pest activity, or safety hazards.
- Communicate maintenance concerns to the designated Fiscal Court contact for corrective action.
Security and Coordination:
- Follow approved access schedules and security protocols for restricted areas such as judges' offices, records storage areas, and evidence areas.
- Coordinate with the Chief Circuit Judge or designee and the Circuit Court Clerk regarding facility‑related concerns or service needs.
- Maintain confidentiality of court operations, records, and information at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Prior experience in janitorial, custodial, or facilities maintenance work preferred.
- Experience working in a courthouse, government building, or secure facility is a plus.
- Must successfully pass a Criminal History Record Check conducted by the Administrative Office of the Courts prior to assignment in judicial facilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, equipment, and supplies.
- Familiarity with safety procedures and proper handling of cleaning chemicals.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established cleaning schedules and standards.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in a secure judicial environment.
- Effective communication skills for reporting facility issues and coordinating with staff.

- Ability to work cooperatively with county staff, elected officials, and judicial personnel.
Training Guidelines:
- Training will be provided on judicial facility standards, safety procedures, and Administrative Office of the Courts requirements.
- Ongoing instruction may be required to ensure continued compliance with AOC policies and procedures.
Work Environment:
The employee works primarily indoors within the Calloway County Judicial Building and may be exposed to cleaning chemicals, dust, and cleaning equipment. Limited outdoor work may be required to maintain entrances and adjacent exterior areas. Work may be performed during early morning, evening, or after‑hours schedules to avoid disruption of court proceedings.
Physical Demands:
This position requires the ability and dexterity to reach, bend, stoop, kneel, walk, stand for extended periods, and use hands and arms repetitively. Normal, or correctable to normal, vision and hearing are required. The position requires strength and endurance to lift, carry, push, or pull objects and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and to perform physically demanding tasks on a regular basis.
