Pool Service & Repair Technician Eden Design GroupFull-Time | Year-Round Position - Gaithersburg, Maryland / Washington, DC Metro Area Compensation $28.00-$38.00 per hour , based on experience, technical ability, and demonstrated pool-service skills. This is a full-time, year-round position. Overtime opportunities may be available, particularly during commercial snow and ice operations. Position Overview Eden Design Group is seeking an experienced Pool Service & Repair Technician to join our team. The primary responsibility of this position is the weekly maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and commercial swimming pools throughout the Washington, DC and Montgomery County, Maryland area. We are looking for someone who understands more than basic pool cleaning. The ideal candidate should be comfortable maintaining proper water chemistry, diagnosing pool problems, performing basic plumbing and equipment repairs, and programming and troubleshooting pool automation systems. In addition to servicing existing pools, Eden Design Group builds new swimming pools and performs pool renovation and rehabilitation projects. This technician will assist with the commissioning and startup of new and renovated pools, including equipment programming, system setup, and plaster startups. Unlike many seasonal pool-service positions, this is a full-time position throughout the entire year. During the winter months, the employee will transition into Eden Design Group's commercial snow and ice operations. Experience with irrigation systems is helpful but not required . Primary Responsibilities Pool Maintenance & Water Chemistry Perform scheduled weekly pool-service visits. Test, balance, and maintain proper pool-water chemistry. Add and document necessary chemicals. Brush pool walls, steps, benches, and waterline areas. Vacuum and clean pools as necessary. Skim debris and maintain overall pool cleanliness. Empty skimmer and pump baskets. Clean and backwash filters as required. Inspect pools during each visit and identify potential problems before they become larger repairs. Maintain accurate service records, including chemical readings, chemicals added, repairs needed, and relevant photographs. Pool Equipment, Plumbing & Repairs The technician should have working knowledge of common swimming-pool mechanical systems and be capable of performing routine repairs and replacements, including: Pool pumps and variable-speed pumps Salt-chlorination systems and salt cells Filters Valves and actuators Basic PVC pool plumbing Timers and controls Heaters and related pool equipment Circulation and filtration systems Identifying leaks and other common equipment problems The technician should be capable of diagnosing common pool problems and determining whether equipment should be adjusted, repaired, or replaced. Pool Automation & Controls The technician should be comfortable working with modern pool automation and control systems, including: Programming filtration and circulation schedules Programming variable-speed pumps Adjusting heater and temperature settings Programming lighting and other auxiliary functions Setting up valve actuators and operating modes Troubleshooting automation and communication problems Understanding common Pentair, Jandy, Hayward, or similar pool-control systems Advanced manufacturer-specific knowledge is preferred but not required if the candidate has a strong overall understanding of pool equipment and controls. New Pool Construction & Renovation Support Eden Design Group constructs new swimming pools and performs pool renovations and rehabilitation projects. While specialized pool plumbing is generally completed by a subcontractor, the Pool Service & Repair Technician will assist with the final setup, commissioning, and startup of new and renovated pool systems.
Responsibilities may include:
Assisting with startup and commissioning of newly constructed or renovated pools Programming pool automation systems after construction Programming variable-speed pumps, filtration schedules, heaters, lighting, and other equipment Setting valve positions, actuators, timers, and operating schedules Confirming proper circulation and equipment operation Identifying installation or programming issues prior to turnover to the client Performing new plaster startups Testing and adjusting water chemistry during the plaster-curing/startup period Brushing newly plastered pools according to the required startup schedule Monitoring pH, alkalinity, calcium, and other water-chemistry parameters during startup Coordinating with Eden Design Group's construction team as pools transition from construction into normal operation Helping prepare completed pools for final client turnover This position provides the opportunity to work on pools throughout their entire lifecycle—from new construction and startup through weekly service, repair, renovation, and long-term maintenance. Pool Openings & Closings The technician will assist with seasonal pool operations, including: Pool openings Pool closings and winterization Equipment startup and shutdown System inspections Identifying repairs or equipment replacement needs Winter / Snow Operations Eden Design Group provides year-round employment for this position. During the pool off-season, the employee will participate in the company's commercial snow and ice management operations.
Responsibilities may include:
Operating company snowplow vehicles Driving during snow and ice events Snow and ice removal Assisting with commercial snow operations as assigned Because snow operations are weather dependent, employees must be available for occasional overnight, early-morning, weekend, and holiday work during snow events . Previous snowplow experience is preferred but not required. Irrigation Experience — Preferred, Not Required Candidates with basic irrigation knowledge are encouraged to apply. During the growing season, the employee may occasionally assist with minor irrigation work such as: Adjusting sprinkler heads Replacing heads or nozzles Making basic controller adjustments Identifying obvious irrigation problems Irrigation experience is not required for this position and will not disqualify an otherwise qualified pool technician.
Qualifications Applicants should have:
Previous hands-on swimming-pool service or maintenance experience Understanding of pool-water chemistry Ability to independently perform routine weekly pool maintenance Basic knowledge of pool pumps, filters, salt systems, plumbing, and related equipment Ability to troubleshoot common pool-equipment problems Familiarity with pool automation and programming Ability or willingness to learn proper new-pool and plaster-startup procedures Strong attention to detail Ability to work independently and manage a daily service route Professional communication skills when interacting with customers Reliable attendance and punctuality Ability to safely handle and transport swimming-pool chemicals Ability to perform outdoor physical work in varying weather conditions Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record Two or more years of pool-industry experience is preferred. Candidates with substantial pool repair, automation, startup, plumbing, or equipment experience may qualify for compensation toward the upper end of the advertised range.
