MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Parks Maintenance Technician will assist in all phases of grounds and building maintenance, construction, carpentry, plumbing, masonry and electrical work, in varying degrees, to keep all Parks and Recreation fields and facilities in safe condition.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Makes minor repairs to buildings, areas and equipment. Performs a variety of carpentry work in the maintenance, repair and construction of structures and equipment. Paints buildings, facilities, and equipment as directed. Maintains playgrounds, fields, and facilities, and repairs or reports any unsafe conditions or broken equipment, bleachers, etc. to reduce risk of danger or injury to persons using grounds or facilities. Additional duties may be required in special circumstances to meet the public service commitments of the City of Ocean Springs Parks and Recreation Department. Occasional weekend and holiday work may be required.PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Uses hand tools in construction and maintenance work. Operates heavy equipment as needed. Assists the Parks Maintenance Supervisor during the absence of the Assistant Director and/or Director; must be able to perform the basic duties of the Parks Maintenance Supervisor in an unlimited capacity. Writes and submits work orders.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Some general training and/or experience in performing technical tasks and using equipment for building maintenance, construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, grounds keeping, landscaping, and/or field maintenance is required.NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of procedures to repair and maintain plumbing, physical structures, electrical wiring and fixtures and other related work is required. Must have or be able to obtain, a valid driver's license. Must be able to dig, load, unload, weld, do concrete work, and handle small tools and equipment. Must have and maintain excellent public relations skills. Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must be able to follow directions in performing assigned tasks. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the general public.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee is often required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to a height of two (2) feet. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
