Summary:
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting or repairing systems within the hospital (i.e., electrical, plumbing, painting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, oxygen, medical gases) and for general repair of all types of equipment. The Maintenance Mechanic should have special knowledge and training in the care, repair and operating of specialized equipment such as x-ray processors, emergency generators, air compressors, diesel engines, boilers, and chill systems. Also, will assist with fixture repair and other facilities tasks related to general repair and upkeep of the hospital.
Responsibilities:
1.Assists plumbers, electricians, locksmiths and other teammates with major repairs, equipment replacement and other facilities tasks. 2.Performs basic repair and preventative maintenance tasks on equipment, fixtures and furniture. 3.Performs preventative maintenance on fire doors. 4.Conducts scheduled room inspections in assigned areas on a quarterly basis or as needed, per maintenance software systems. 5.Receives and completes work orders/service requests correctly and in a timely manner. Follows work order system procedures to close out work orders per policy. 6.Conducts routine rounds of the facility to monitor buildings, grounds, equipment, and operating machinery. 7.Maintains work areas and ensures that tools and equipment are operational, clean, and orderly. 8.Responds to codes and disasters promptly as needed or directed. 9.Performs preventative maintenance and completes pm documentation monthly. 10.Informs supervisor promptly regarding problems or issues with service assignments, equipment, supplies or tools. 11.Assists others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc. as requested. 12.Keeps work area free of hazardous conditions, i.e., spills, excess supplies, equipment, etc. 13.Takes proper safety precautions at all times. Identifies and corrects or reports any safety or environmental issues appropriately. 14.Uses appropriate personal protective equipment and supplies when handling infectious materials.
WAYNE Other information:
Education High school, trade or vocation school graduate required. Completion of special equipment repair school preferred. Licensure/Certification None Experience Prior experience in facility maintenance or construction preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to perform basic repair and preventative maintenance tasks on equipment, fixtures and furniture.
  • Ability to ensure service requests are completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic proficiency in MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.
Valid NC Driver's License:
Yes If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
