Minimum Qualifications:
Must meet the civil service requirements for the position, six (6) years of journey-level experience in heating, cooling, plumbing or electrical systems work. Strong HVAC experience desired. Work involves responsibility for performing and providing skilled technical assistance for a variety of maintenance and repair tasks in one or more trades. Under general supervision, this employee is called upon to perform and instruct other staff in the installation, maintenance, and repair work involving electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and steam fitting trades. Work is performed independently when providing instruction and creating methods to accomplish assigned tasks.
Duties:
Installs, maintains, and replaces plumbing lines, pipes, fixtures, heating pipes, boiler parts, sheet metal products, and HVAC air filtration components. Troubleshoots programmable logic controller (PLC) failures causing malfunctions in doors, alarm systems, public address systems, and energy management systems. Sets up energy management software parameters specific to the agency and installs upgrades to the original software as necessary. Works daily with district energy management systems ensuring proper temperatures throughout all buildings while maximizing energy efficiency. Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications, and other technical documents pertaining to the layout, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Installs, maintains, and replaces electric wiring controls, circuit breakers, switches, light fixtures, telephone and data lines, and energy management equipment. Performs preventative maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs on pumps, motors, compressors, chilled water/Freon systems, and gas/oil-fired furnaces. Enters work orders on a personal computer and operates motor equipment in performance of assigned work.
