This hands-on position is responsible for maintaining the hotel's physical building, mechanical systems, electrical systems, HVAC equipment, plumbing, fixtures, finishes, and operational equipment. The Engineer Mechanic plays an important role in maintaining the appearance, safety, functionality, and overall guest experience of the property. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded hotel engineering professional with strong mechanical troubleshooting skills who can work independently, respond quickly to operational needs, and maintain the standards expected of a luxury hotel. The position reports to the Chief Engineer and General Manager . Key Responsibilities Maintain guestrooms, public areas, restaurants, bars, rooftop venues, pool areas, offices, meeting spaces, and back-of-house facilities. Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs throughout the hotel. Identify maintenance deficiencies and complete corrective repairs in a timely manner. Respond promptly and professionally to guest maintenance requests and operational concerns. Maintain hotel areas, fixtures, and finishes in accordance with luxury presentation standards. Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC equipment, including PTAC units, air handlers, fan coil units, exhaust systems, make-up air units, rooftop units, refrigeration equipment, and building automation systems. Inspect and maintain boiler room equipment, domestic hot water systems, heat exchangers, pumps, expansion tanks, and associated controls. Replace filters, belts, and mechanical components as required. Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment, circuits, panels, controls, lighting fixtures, outlets, switches, breakers, transformers, relays, and low-voltage systems. Repair and replace plumbing fixtures, including faucets, sinks, toilets, shower valves, drains, piping, pumps, and related equipment. Troubleshoot leaks, blockages, circulation issues, hot and cold water systems, and other plumbing concerns. Maintain and support fire alarms, sprinkler systems, fire pumps, emergency lighting, exit signage, carbon monoxide detection, and other life-safety systems. Perform rough and finish carpentry, including repairs to doors, frames, locks, hardware, cabinetry, shelving, flooring, trim, and millwork. Perform painting, drywall repair, plastering, skim coating, wallpaper installation and repair, and other cosmetic maintenance. Assist with renovations, construction, capital improvement projects, installations, and property repairs. Maintain pool mechanical systems, pumps, filters, heaters, circulation systems, and related equipment. Test and balance pool chemicals and support compliance with applicable health and safety requirements. Maintain and repair housekeeping, laundry, kitchen, restaurant, rooftop, and other operational equipment. Assist with furniture, fixture, and equipment installation, relocation, assembly, and removal. Maintain engineering logs, work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, permits, inspection records, and compliance documentation. Utilize the hotel maintenance management system to track and complete work orders. Maintain appropriate engineering inventory, tools, materials, and supplies. Respond to emergency situations including power outages, flooding, HVAC failures, plumbing failures, boiler issues, fire alarms, and severe weather. Participate in emergency call-back situations when required. Perform additional engineering duties as assigned by hotel leadership. Qualifications Minimum 2-3 years of hotel engineering experience . Strong mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance knowledge. Experience with HVAC systems and preventive maintenance programs. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Detail-oriented with the ability to work effectively under pressure. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong time-management and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Strong service orientation and professionalism when interacting with guests, employees, vendors, and contractors. Ability to maintain and complete work orders accurately and on a timely basis. Reliable work history and demonstrated job stability preferred. Availability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and remain mobile for extended periods throughout the workday. Ability to move quickly throughout various areas of the property as needed. Ability to regularly lift, carry, or move up to 60 pounds . Ability to grasp, turn, and handle tools and equipment. Ability to kneel, bend, crouch, climb, and perform physical maintenance work as required.
