Job Overview We are seeking a skilled and dependable Facilities Maintenance Technician to help keep DEC's community homes, day programs, administrative offices, and other agency facilities safe, functional, secure, and well maintained. In this hands-on role, you will perform preventive maintenance, routine repairs, troubleshooting, inspections, grounds maintenance, and facility improvement projects across multiple DEC locations. You will also support building security, fleet maintenance, and other facility operations that help keep our programs running safely and effectively. This position is an important internal service partner to the employees and individuals we serve. The Facilities Maintenance Technician works throughout environments that support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and must demonstrate professionalism, respect, patience, and comfort working in community-based residential and program settings. The successful candidate understands that maintaining DEC's facilities is an important part of supporting the people we serve and the employees who carry out our mission every day. Duties Perform preventive maintenance and general repairs involving carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, doors, windows, locks, lighting, plumbing fixtures, cabinetry, and other building components. Troubleshoot basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical issues and coordinate licensed contractors when specialized repairs are needed. Conduct routine inspections of facilities and grounds to identify maintenance needs, hazards, and opportunities for corrective action. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and communicate work order status, anticipated completion times, and updates to internal customers. Maintain agency keys, access documentation, locks, and building access systems, including issuing and tracking employee keys. Assist with building security, alarms, access control systems, and coordination with locksmith, security, and alarm vendors. Coordinate preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and servicing of agency vehicles and maintain accurate fleet maintenance records. Support required inspections and preventive maintenance for fire alarms, elevators, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, security systems, and other life-safety equipment. Perform snow and ice removal, apply de-icing materials, and assist with landscaping and seasonal grounds maintenance. Assist with office moves, furniture assembly, equipment installation, property setup, and facility improvement projects. Coordinate with contractors, inspectors, vendors, and utility providers as needed to support maintenance and renovation projects. Help prepare facilities for occupancy, inspections, licensing visits, and organizational expansion. Maintain tools, equipment, inventory, maintenance records, and other documentation. Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes, facility operations, workplace safety, and customer service. Respond to facility emergencies as business needs require. Requirements High school diploma or GED required. At least three (3) years of experience in facilities maintenance, commercial or residential property maintenance, or a related field preferred. Knowledge of general building maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, drywall, painting, lighting, electrical, and HVAC systems. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills. Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests based on safety, urgency, and operational needs. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with employees and leaders across the organization. Excellent communication and customer service skills with a professional, respectful, and solution-focused approach. Comfort working in community-based residential homes, day programs, and other human services environments serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Ability to work respectfully and professionally in environments where employees may encounter behaviors, personal care situations, medical or health-related conditions, and potential exposure to bodily fluids or other conditions associated with providing direct support services. Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and appropriate boundaries when working in residential and program environments. Ability to use computers, mobile devices, email, and maintenance or fleet management software. Valid Pennsylvania driver's license with an acceptable driving record and ability to be insured under DEC's automobile insurance policy. Ability to travel independently between DEC locations as business needs require. Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications Technical, vocational, or trade school training in facilities maintenance or a related field. OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification. EPA Section 608 Certification. HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or building maintenance certification. First Aid/CPR Certification. Experience with access control, security, or alarm systems. Experience with fleet management technology such as Geotab. Experience coordinating regulatory inspections, contractors, and service vendors. Experience working in nonprofit, healthcare, residential, or human services environments.
