Full Job Description Newberry Township is seeking a motivated and dependable Public Works Sewer Maintenance Technician to assist with the inspection, maintenance, cleaning, and repair of the Township's sanitary sewer collection system, pump stations, manholes, and related public works infrastructure. This position is primarily field-based and involves sewer line maintenance and repairs, jet/vac truck operations, CCTV inspections, pump station maintenance, utility mark-outs, equipment operation, and emergency response. The employee may occasionally assist with wastewater treatment plant operations, sampling, equipment inspections, and general plant maintenance as needed. Previous wastewater or sewer maintenance experience is preferred but not required. The Township welcomes mechanically inclined individuals interested in developing a long-term career in municipal wastewater and public works operations. Training and certification support will be provided. Key Responsibilities Inspect, clean, maintain, and repair sanitary sewer mains, laterals, manholes, and related infrastructure. Operate and assist with jet/vac truck operations, sewer line cleaning, and sewer backup response. Assist with CCTV inspections of sewer mains and laterals. Perform routine pump station inspections and assist with equipment maintenance and repairs. Inspect and maintain pumps, motors, floats, alarms, generators, valves, and related equipment. Perform PA One Call utility mark-outs and field inspections. Assist with sewer excavation, pipe repairs, and restoration activities. Safely operate Township vehicles, trucks, tools, and equipment. Occasionally assist with wastewater treatment plant operations, sampling, testing, and preventive maintenance. Respond to sewer backups, pump station alarms, equipment failures, severe weather, and other emergencies. Record completed work, inspections, maintenance, and repairs in the Township's computerized maintenance system. Perform additional wastewater and general public works duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license at the time of hire. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate tools and equipment. Basic computer skills for work orders, inspections, reporting, and email. Ability to read maps, plans, utility markings, and basic schematics. Dependable, safety-focused, and willing to obtain required certifications. Required Certifications & Training The successful applicant must obtain and maintain the following certifications within the specified timeframes: PA CDL Class B with air-brake and tanker endorsements

• within 12 months. Confined Space Entry Training
• within 12 months. PA DEP Wastewater Collection System Operator
• Class E, Subclass 4
• within 24 months. PA DEP Wastewater Treatment Operator
• Class B, Subclass 1
• within 48 months.

Newberry Township will provide training and certification support, including payment of required CDL training and testing costs. Current wastewater certifications, CDL experience, or previous sewer maintenance experience are preferred but not required. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Ability to work safely around traffic, excavation sites, wastewater, machinery, and confined spaces. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection when necessary. Schedule Full-time, 40 hours per week. Primarily day shift. Required participation in an on-call rotation, typically one week at a time. Overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs as needed.
