Full Job Description Newberry Township is seeking a motivated and dependable Wastewater Treatment Operator to assist with the daily operation, monitoring, maintenance, and repair of the Township's wastewater treatment plant and associated equipment. This position is primarily responsible for treatment plant operations, including process monitoring, sampling and testing, equipment maintenance, and regulatory compliance. The employee may occasionally assist with pump station maintenance, sanitary sewer collection system repairs, emergency response, and other public works duties as needed. Previous wastewater experience is preferred but not required. The Township welcomes mechanically inclined individuals interested in developing a long-term career in municipal wastewater treatment. Training and certification support will be provided. Key Responsibilities Operate, inspect, and maintain wastewater treatment plant equipment and systems. Monitor treatment processes, collect samples, and perform routine laboratory testing. Record treatment data, flow readings, inspections, and maintenance activities. Assist with regulatory compliance and preparation of required PA DEP reports, including Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs). Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot pumps, motors, valves, blowers, alarms, generators, and related equipment. Perform preventive maintenance and minor mechanical repairs. Maintain treatment plant buildings, grounds, and infrastructure. Occasionally assist with pump station inspections, sewer collection system maintenance, and emergency repairs. Respond to treatment plant alarms, equipment failures, and other emergencies. Upon obtaining the required certification and Township designation, may serve as Operator in Responsible Charge of the wastewater treatment facility. Perform additional wastewater and public works duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license at the time of hire. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate tools and equipment. Basic computer skills for testing records, inspections, work orders, and email. Ability to read equipment manuals, operating procedures, and basic schematics. Dependable, safety-focused, and willing to obtain required certifications. Required Certifications & Training The successful applicant must obtain and maintain the following certifications within the specified timeframes: PA CDL Class B with air-brake and tanker endorsements

• within 12 months. Confined Space Entry Training
• within 12 months. PA DEP Wastewater Collection System Operator
• Class E, Subclass 4
• within 12 months. PA DEP Wastewater Treatment Operator
• Class B, Subclass 1
• within 24 months.

Newberry Township will provide training and certification support, including payment of required CDL training and testing costs. Current wastewater certification or previous wastewater treatment experience is preferred but not required. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and working around treatment equipment. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Ability to work safely around wastewater, chemicals, machinery, and confined spaces. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection when necessary. Schedule Full-time, 40 hours per week. Primarily day shift. Required participation in an on-call rotation, typically one week at a time. Overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs as needed.
