UTILITY WORKER

(PAINT SHOP)

MAINTENANCE SHOP SUPERVISOR POSITION SUMMARY

Under direct supervision, performs several semi-skilled and unskilled manual functions in the Solid Waste Maintenance Shop. Does maintenance of solid waste containers, which includes cleaning, painting and stripping and may oversee work of hourly laborer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Drives 1/2 ton pickup and forklift. Maintenance of solid waste containers(cleaning, painting and stripping). Repair fence damage. Operates and maintains various light duty equipment (airless paint gun, auger, metal shear and small hand tools). Checks oil, fuel and water on vehicles and equipment. May be lead man for hourly laborers. Responsible for filling out job reports and do minor maintenance on small equipment.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND WORK AIDS USED

Must have familiarity and ability to operate forklift and pickup. Should be knowledgeable in all hand tools, cutting torch, and some power tools, such as automatic auger, metal shear and airless paint unit.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must have good physical condition. Able to perform manual labor for extended periods of time. Be able to work outdoors in inclement weather and to walk or stand for long periods of time. Requires occasional lifting materials weighing up to 75 lbs. and could involve heavier lifting of over 100 lbs. with laborers assistance, and have ability to pull with a force of at least 94 lbs. Must be able to work and drive in all types of city traffic and weather conditions. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with co-workers. Regular and punctual attendance is required of this job. Must have knowledge of city streets.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

Any combination of training and experience with at least completion of the eighth (8) grade. Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License, Class C required. Prior experience in the operation of forklifts and airless paint guns is preferred.
