FACILITIES TECHNICIAN

Job Description

The Facilities Technician performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, inspection, and preventive maintenance of City buildings, facilities, and related systems. The position independently evaluates routine facility problems, determines appropriate repair methods, completes work within established capabilities, and identifies conditions requiring licensed contractors or specialized technical services. This position performs general carpentry, painting, minor plumbing and electrical work, hardware repair, equipment maintenance, and other building maintenance activities. The Facilities Technician assists in maintaining City facilities in a safe, functional, professional, and reliable condition while supporting the day-to-day operational needs of City departments.
Qualifications:
TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
Required:
High school diploma or GED. Experience performing building, facility, construction, property, or general maintenance work.
Preferred:
Three (3) or more years of progressively responsible facility, building, commercial property, construction, or general maintenance experience. Experience maintaining commercial, governmental, institutional, or multi-building facilities. Training or experience in carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or other building trades. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Valid Texas driver's license required. Must obtain and maintain any safety or equipment certifications required by the City for assigned duties. Trade certifications or licenses related to building maintenance are desirable but not required unless necessary for a specifically assigned function. The employee shall not perform work requiring a state or locally mandated professional or trade license unless appropriately licensed or otherwise legally authorized to perform the work.
