Job Description

Job Summary Responsible for providing basic maintenance of lawns by irrigating, mowing, edging, hand trimming, fertilizing. Other responsibilities include public safety, overseeing park rentals, monitoring restrooms, preparing areas for seed or sod. Operate riding mower, lawn sweeper, utility vehicle, tractor as needed. Performs related work as directed. Job Functions
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintains athletic fields using appropriate lawn care procedures including aeration, dragging fields, mowing, stripping of playing surfaces, setting bases in position, spot addressing weeds, and re-setting pitchers mounds Maintains park common areas, trees and shrubs by planting, pruning, watering, weeding and cleaning shrub plantings; prepare flower beds for growing annuals and bulbs Administer maintenance on park buildings and amenities, mend fencing, and repair vandalism damage Plant, maintain, trim, prune hedges and remove papers and other debris which accumulate in the hedges; sweep up dirt and debris, clean around trash compactors, and collect rubbish left in the parks Maintain surface drainage by keeping catch basins free of debris during heavy rain storms Maintains a high level of customer service; establishes a working relationship with staff and park users; communicates ball fields, pavilions, and other facility closures Monitoring and cleaning bathrooms Maintains and keeps a clean and safe environment in Parks and Recreation parks and facilities Supervises seasonal and/or volunteer personnel; coordinates work activities, organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work to subordinates Assists with the planning, implementation, setup, and breakdown of various countywide special events

Qualifications Education and Experience:
Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
Special Qualifications:
Must possess satisfactory results of a criminal history background check. Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the regulations, standards, policies, and procedures of park maintenance Knowledge of the safety practices applicable to operating handheld equipment needed for park maintenance Ability to operate various office equipment such as a computer, fax, phone, etc. Ability to express orally and in writing Ability to exercise tack and courtesy when dealing with customers Ability to perform mathematical operations Ability to reference data such as policy manuals and regulations Ability to perform the highest level of customer service Ability to work in a team environment Working Conditions & Disclaimer

Essential functions are regularly performed in an outdoor setting.
