Maintenance Technician, Public Works/Streets Department

Job Description

The Town of Pulaski is seeking applicants for a Maintenance Technician in our Public Works Department (Streets Dept.). This full-time, non-exempt position performs manual work cleaning and repairing the streets, shoulders, drainage ways and maintaining other town owned properties. Seasonally based duties performed are mowing, leaf collection and snow removal, and related work as apparent or assigned.
Responsibilities:
Performs mowing/maintenance in the two town owned cemeteries. Removes items from grave sites as needed, and performs mowing of all other town right of way (seasonal). Puts down asphalt and gravel as requested by citizens, performs ditching and shoulder repairs as assigned. Installs drain pipes as needed. Performs maintenance to street department equipment, as needed, including chainsaws, chains and cleaning and servicing equipment after use. Collects leaves during leaf collection season. Delivers/picks up barricades after hours as needed. Responds to after-hours calls and contacts necessary crews. Secures all public works grounds/buildings at the end of the day.
Qualifications:
Ability to use the following tools and equipment: Dump truck Loader Salt spreader and snow plow Mowing machines Tractor mower (bush hog) Push mower Variety of riding lawn mowers Weed eater Fork lift Leaf Loader Chipper Jack hammer Sledge hammer
Air Compressor Saws:
Chain saw, concrete saw, hand saw Shovel, rake and pitchfork In addition to the use of tools and equipment, the Automotive Mechanic should Follow both oral and written instruction Work well alone or in small group Work with or without direct supervision Interface well with the public Know the layout of the town streets
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience mowing/weeding. Experienced in flagging/traffic control, application of asphalt and gravel. Experience in operation of dump truck, snow removal units, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
