Field Technicians are responsible for assisting in the fabrication, installation, and reinforcement of structural steel frameworks, miscellaneous metals, stairs, railings, platforms, and other structural components for commercial, industrial, and military projects. This position requires hands-on work with tools and equipment, the ability to work safely in demanding environments, strong teamwork skills, and a willingness to learn the steel erection trade under the direction of experienced Crew Leaders and Supervisors. Candidates must be motivated, safety-conscious, and prepared to travel regularly for project assignments. Work Environment Work is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind. Requires working at heights, in confined spaces, and around heavy machinery and active construction zones. Exposure to loud noise, sparks, dust, welding operations, and hot work environments. Frequent travel is required, with project locations varying throughout the year. Work schedules may vary depending on project demands, deadlines, and weather conditions. Ample overtime opportunities are available. Must adhere to strict OSHA regulations, customer safety requirements, and company safety standards at all times. Military and government projects may require additional screening, identification, or jobsite security compliance. Duties & Responsibilities Assist with installing structural steel and miscellaneous metal components according to project specifications and blueprints. Cut, grind, fit, and prepare metal components using bandsaws, cut-off wheels, grinders, torches, and other hand and power tools. Assist with rigging, connecting, bolting, and securing structural members. Load, unload, move, and organize materials, equipment, and tools throughout the job site. Organize and maintain tools, safety devices, and work areas for efficient workflow and safety compliance. Conduct routine inspections of tools and equipment to ensure proper functionality and safe operation. Follow all safety procedures including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection, and lockout/tagout procedures. Assist Crew Leaders and coworkers to maintain project schedules and production goals. Inspect completed work for alignment, structural integrity, accuracy, and quality standards. Communicate effectively with Crew Leaders, crane operators, welders, and other trades on-site. Identify and report safety hazards, damaged equipment, or jobsite concerns immediately. Maintain professionalism and represent the company positively on all jobsites and during travel. Assist with maintaining company vehicles, trailers, and equipment when necessary. Required Qualifications Willingness to learn the trade and follow plans, procedures, and instructions from Crew Leaders and Supervisors. Strong work ethic, punctuality, reliability, and positive attitude. Ability to work in physically demanding and high-stress environments. Ability to work at heights and lift heavy materials repeatedly throughout the workday. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team. Valid Driver's License / Real ID required. High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to travel frequently and stay out of town as required by project schedules. Preferred Qualifications Previous construction, steel erection, welding, or industrial experience preferred but not required. OSHA 10 certification preferred. Experience operating forklifts, aerial lifts, skid steers, or other construction equipment is a plus. Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and basic construction drawings. NCCER, rigging, welding, or equipment certifications are a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds regularly. Frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, crouching, and repetitive movement. Ability to work safely on elevated surfaces and uneven terrain. Ability to wear fall protection harnesses and PPE for extended periods of time.
