Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Lead Field Technician - Fiber Optics & Structured Cabling to lead and execute high-quality fiber optic and Cat6/Cat6A structured cabling installations in large, complex, and mission-critical environments. This position is ideal for a technically strong professional who enjoys remaining hands-on while taking responsibility for field crews, installation quality, testing, documentation, and customer coordination. Projects may include medical facilities, healthcare campuses, Class A commercial buildings, data centers, and other high-visibility environments where safety, reliability, cleanliness, and adherence to industry standards are critical. The Lead Field Technician will serve as the primary technical leader on-site and will work closely with project managers, general contractors, engineers, clients, and other trades to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification. Key Responsibilities Lead and perform installation, termination, splicing, testing, and certification of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cabling systems . Install, terminate, test, and certify Cat6/Cat6A structured copper cabling systems . Install and build out pathways, cable tray, racks, cabinets, patch panels, and work-area outlets. Lead installations in hospitals, medical campuses, Class A office buildings, data centers, and other mission-critical facilities. Ensure all installations comply with applicable BICSI, TIA/EIA, NEC, local codes, project specifications, and facility requirements . Supervise, direct, and mentor field technicians and installation crews. Assign daily tasks, monitor productivity, enforce quality standards, and maintain job-site safety. Perform OTDR, power meter/loss testing, and copper certification testing . Produce accurate test results, certification reports, labeling, and as-built documentation. Read and interpret construction drawings, riser diagrams, cable schedules, and technical specifications. Coordinate with project managers, engineers, general contractors, and client representatives regarding schedules, scope, changes, and punch-list items. Identify and troubleshoot technical issues in the field and escalate complex issues when appropriate. Maintain tools, test equipment, materials, and job-site organization. Ensure clean, professional workmanship appropriate for high-visibility and regulated environments. Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers, contractors, facility personnel, and other trades. Maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction. Required Qualifications Proven experience as a fiber optic and structured cabling field technician or lead technician . Significant hands-on experience with fiber optic and Cat6/Cat6A installations . Experience working on large commercial, healthcare, data center, or Class A building projects. Strong fiber splicing skills, with fusion splicing experience preferred . Experience with fiber connectorization, testing, troubleshooting, and certification. Experience with pathways, cable tray, racks, cabinets, patch panels, and cable management. Working knowledge of BICSI best practices and applicable industry standards or equivalent recognized training/certifications. Experience using industry-standard test equipment, including: OTDR Fiber power meters/loss testers Copper certification testers Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, riser diagrams, and technical specifications. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to travel to job sites as required. Ability to work on ladders and lifts, above ceilings, and in active construction environments. Ability to lift, carry, and handle cabling, tools, and installation materials. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to direct field crews while maintaining a professional relationship with customers and other trades. Strong commitment to safety, quality, and clean workmanship. Experience with Procore Project Managment Tools Preferred Qualifications BICSI Installer 2, Technician, or higher certification. Experience working in healthcare or medical facility environments, including infection-control procedures and above-ceiling work protocols. Knowledge of systems commonly integrated with structured cabling, such as: Wireless/Wi-Fi Security Audio/Visual DAS Previous project lead or supervisory experience managing multi-technician crews. Manufacturer certifications from Corning, CommScope, Panduit, Leviton , or similar manufacturers.
