Location Chesapeake, VA - Chesapeake, VA 23320 US (Primary) Category Information Technology Job Description Our team in Chesapeake, VA has an immediate need for a Senior-level Shipboard Fiber Cable Technician with demonstrated experience in installing, testing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic communication and data network networks aboard maritime vessels. This position is located on-site on Navy Bases, Navy Shipyards, and onboard Navy ships. There are no remote or hybrid work opportunities. Travel is required. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Installation & Routing:
Pull, route, and secure fiber optic cables through tight shipboard pathways, multi-cable transits (MCTs), and main cableways.
Termination & Splicing:
Build, terminate, and polish fiber optic connectors (such as ST, SC, and LC types) and execute precision fusion splicing.
System Testing:
Calibrate and use specialized diagnostic equipment, including Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs), DB loss meters, and Visual Fault Locators (VFLs) to measure signal strength and verify system integrity. Interpret NavSea drawings, Ship Installation Drawings (SIDs), blueprints, and technical manuals to guarantee accurate modernizations. Provide training/familiarization to other shipboard technicians and junior level fiber technicians Education and Certification Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Active Secret Clearance 2 to 5+ years of hands-on experience dealing with shipboard electronics and network cableways. Must either obtain orbe able to obtain
Safety Training:
Maritime OSHA 10-hour safety certification
Preferred Certification:
NAVSEA Fiber Optic Installer/Technician Other Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Ability to climb vertical shipboard ladders Ability to work comfortably inside dark, tightly confined spaces. Ability to travel both domestic and internationally Employees will be required to provide their own PPE (Hard Hats, reflective Safety vest) while working in a shipyard environment. We use E-Verify to confirm the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires. The anticipated salary range for this role is $75,000 to $80,000 annually.

The anticipated salary range for this position is provided in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws. The final starting salary will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including the selected candidate's qualifications, skills, relevant experience, education, certifications, and work location (where applicable), as well as internal equity and market considerations.
