Job Description

  • Job Overview
  • We are seeking a skilled Fleet Diesel Mechanic for our tri-axle dump truck fleet. Your mission is to maximize "uptime" and ensure every vehicle in our inventory is safe, DOT-compliant, and job-site ready. Key Responsibilities
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM): Execute scheduled oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication for a fleet of Class 8 tri-axle trucks.
  • Hydraulic Systems:
    Diagnose and repair PTOs, hydraulic pumps, hoist cylinders, and high-pressure lines specific to dump bodies.
  • Chassis & Suspension:
    Maintain specialized tri-axle components, including lift axles, walking beam suspensions, and heavy-duty leaf springs.
  • Diagnostics:
    Use software (e.g., Cummins Insite, JPRO) to troubleshoot engine fault codes, emissions systems (DEF/DPF), and electrical malfunctions.
  • Brakes & Air Systems:
    Perform complete brake jobs (S-cam/Disc) and ensure air system integrity to meet all safety standards.
  • DOT Compliance:
    Conduct pre-trip and annual inspections to ensure the fleet remains compliant with FMCSA and Alabama state regulations.
  • Documentation:
    Maintain accurate digital records of all repairs, parts used, and labor hours within our fleet management system-Verizon Connect.
  • Organize tools, equipment, and inventory
  • Clean and maintain the shop area
  • Pick up parts as needed Qualifications & Requirements
  • Experience:
    Minimum 1-3 years of experience in heavy-duty diesel repair; specific experience with vocational trucks (dump, mixer, etc.) is highly preferred.
  • Licensing:
    Must possess a valid Driver's License (Class B CDL or higher preferred to test
  • drive vehicles).
  • Tools:
    Must have a complete set of personal hand tools and air tools (specialized diagnostic equipment provided).
  • Technical Skills:
    Proficiency in welding/fabrication and hydraulic troubleshooting is a major plus.
  • Physical Ability:
    Able to lift up to 75 lbs, work in varied weather conditions, and maneuver under large chassis.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as a team.
  • Willingness to learn and follow directions
