Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform basic maintenance and repairs on major coach systems, including engine, electrical, suspension, fueling, pneumatic, and hydraulic components. Accurately document all work performed in the shop's computer system, including details of equipment, fluids, and parts used; time spent; reasons for repairs; repairs completed; and recommendations for preventing future vehicle failures. Conduct routine preventative maintenance inspections and document findings; escalate complex issues as needed. Assist with acceptance testing and pre-service preparation for newly acquired vehicles. Pack bearings, adjust and recline brakes. Perform minor repairs to vehicle interiors and exteriors, such as replacing windows, fixing torn seats, and addressing cosmetic paint issues. Respond to roadside service calls and perform on-site troubleshooting to restore vehicle operation. Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble engine components under supervision. Support senior mechanics with more complex repair tasks. Maintain a safe work environment by following all STI safety protocols, procedures, and policies.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of:
Tools, materials, methods, and safety practices used in vehicle maintenance and repair (CNG, Gasoline, and diesel engines, electrical and fueling systems, etc.). Basic shop mathematics and safety protocols.
Ability to:
Perform maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty vehicles and safely operate hand and power tools. Operate buses, tow trucks, and other service vehicles. Follow oral and written instructions accurately. Communicate effectively in English (read, write, speak, and comprehend). Lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Minimum Qualifications At least 2 years of experience as a heavy equipment or automotive mechanic; OR Completion of a 6-month full-time accredited training program in automotive/truck maintenance and repair. Possession of a valid California Class BP Commercial Driver's License . Special Conditions Must provide personal tools required for the job. Must comply with all Cal/OSHA regulations and use appropriate safety equipment and personal protective gear, including respirators and/or hearing protection when required.
