The ideal candidate has direct experience with towing equipment, hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and computer-based diagnostic software. This position requires someone dependable, organized, and able to clearly communicate mechanical issues, repair recommendations, and equipment downtime to management.
Responsibilities:
Diagnose, repair, and maintain flatbed/rollback tow trucks and wheel-lift trucks Inspect and repair hydraulic systems, pumps, hoses, cylinders, control valves, and PTO systems Service and repair winches, cables, wheel lifts, L-arms, beds, lighting, and towing equipment Diagnose diesel engine, transmission, brake, suspension, steering, and electrical problems Use computer diagnostic software to identify mechanical and electrical issues Perform preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, oil changes, brake services, and routine repairs Identify safety concerns before trucks are returned to service Keep management informed about needed repairs, parts, costs, and expected downtime Maintain accurate digital service records, repair orders, and maintenance schedules Prioritize repairs to help keep the fleet operating safely and efficiently Respond to occasional roadside breakdowns when necessary Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Qualifications:
Previous diesel mechanic experience required Experience repairing flatbed/rollback tow trucks and wheel-lift systems strongly preferred Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, air-brake, and diesel engine systems Comfortable using computers, diagnostic software, and digital work-order systems Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities Effective verbal and written communication skills Ability to clearly explain mechanical issues and recommended repairs to management Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work independently Valid driver's license required Must have your own basic mechanic tools CDL and ASE certifications are preferred but not required Ability to lift heavy parts and work indoors or outdoors as needed
