Job Description
Dirt Works is hiring a Diesel Mechanic/Welder to join our shop team. This role is centered on diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment and diesel-powered machines — along with welding and steel fabrication as needed for steel cages and general construction. We're looking for someone who takes pride in their work and in keeping the shop clean and organized. Responsibilities Diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy equipment including excavators, skid steers, trucks, and vac trucks Perform routine maintenance and inspections to keep equipment running and job-site ready Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on diesel equipment Weld and fabricate metal parts and repairs as needed to support equipment repairs Read blueprints, drawings, or verbal specs to produce accurate parts and assemblies Get underneath and move around vehicles/equipment to perform repairs Bring creative thinking to the shop — suggest and help implement ideas for improving processes, tools, or repair methods Maintain accurate records of parts used and work performed Keep shop and work areas organized, clean, and safe Follow all company safety protocols and procedures Physical Requirements Ability to lift over 50 lbs Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time Ability to get under vehicles/equipment and move around them freely General physical stamina for shop/field work Requirements Valid driver's license required Reliable transportation to and from the job site Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions well Organized, detail-oriented, and takes pride in clean, quality work Some knowledge of heavy equipment mechanic work and/or welding required — experience level is flexible and will factor into pay Own tools/equipment a plus and will factor into pay, but not required What We Offer Competitive pay starting at $28+ hour, based on experience and tools owned Health insurance Paid time off (PTO) Opportunity to grow with a well-established Southern California construction and utility contractor
