Job Description

MARINE DIESEL & SYSTEMS MECHANIC
Mobile Service Division
  • Johanson Boatworks
  • Rockland, Maine $82,000 Base + Commission
  • On-Target Earnings $95,000-$100,000
  • Full-Time, Year-Round We're building something new, and we need you to build it with us.
Johanson Boatworks has been taking care of boats on the Midcoast for decades. This fall we're putting a fully equipped mobile service truck on the road so we can reach customers for emergency and dockside repairs. You'll split your time between mobile service work and pitching in to help on projects at our facility. Most of the time you'll be working from the truck, going to customers at their dock or mooring, diagnosing and fixing engines and systems where they sit. You'll also spend some time in the shop working, on bigger jobs with the rest of the crew. The Truck A 2013 Ford F-550 4x4 with an 11-foot service body, a 5,000 lb hydraulic crane with outriggers, an engine-driven air compressor, and an onboard welder/generator. Full tool and parts inventory. It's a real service truck — not a van with a toolbox. You can pull an outboard, lift a genset, or weld a bracket right at the dock without calling for help. What You'll Be Doing Diagnosing and repairing marine engines, generators, outboards, water systems, and electrical systems Running dockside and mooring-side service calls — troubleshooting, repairs, seasonal service Working larger repowers, rebuilds, and refits in the yard Talking directly with boat owners about what their boat needs and why Keeping the truck stocked, organized, and sharp — it's the face of the company on the road What We're Looking For Real experience with marine diesel engines (Yanmar, Beta, Volvo Penta, Westerbeke, Cummins, Universal — you don't need all of them) Someone who can diagnose a problem, not just replace parts until it stops Comfortable working alone at a customer's boat and making the call on what's needed Clean driving record and comfortable handling a full-size service truck Outboard, gas engine, or general marine systems experience is a plus ABYC certification is a plus but not required — we'll help you get it What You Get $82,000 base salary — a real salary, paid year-round, not seasonal Commission on every mobile job you run — labor and parts. Find the problem, sell the fix, get paid for it. On-target annual earnings of $95,000-$100,000. Health and dental insurance Simple IRA with company match PTO Company uniforms, provided and maintained Year-round work — no winter layoff Why This Job Is Different Most marine mechanic jobs pay you by the hour to work through someone else's list. This job puts you in front of customers with the equipment to actually solve their problems, and pays you a piece of what you bring in. If you're good at this work and good with people, you'll out-earn every comparable job on the coast — and you'll do it from a truck you keep the way you want it kept. We're a growing company. You'll be getting in at the start of our mobile division, and there's room to grow with it. How to Apply Apply through Indeed, or email us directly at office@jboatworks.com. Tell us what engines you've worked on and what you're looking for. If you've got a resume, great — if not, tell us where you've wrenched and we'll talk. Johanson Boatworks is an equal opportunity employer.
