A School Bus Mechanic is needed for assignment at

Woodhaven-Brownstown School District:

Job Summary:

Mechanics have the primary responsibility for the maintenance and repair of school buses and other district vehicles to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the children, staff and volunteers riding to and from school and on extracurricular trips.

Responsibilities:

1. Repair and maintain all vehicles and equipment owned by the district and/or METS. 2. Coordinate with other mechanics, management & staff to ensure the transportation equipment needs of the district are met. 3. Maintain completion of reports, accountability records, and other documentation concerning maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment. 4. Assist in ordering parts and supplies, solicit and evaluate bids for major parts, buses, vehicles, supplies, and services, as directed. 5. Perform overtime work as needed and approved. 6. Respond to service calls for broken down school vehicles or disabled buses. 7. Assist in seeing that all district vehicles are cleaned as needed. 8. Maintain a clean work area. 9. Maintain parts area stocking. 10. Assist in reports to Central Office for year-end inventory. 11. Recommend replacement of equipment and materials. 12. Assist in starting buses in the a.m. during cold weather. 13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

1. Must be able to obtain mechanical certificates required by the State of Michigan, valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with bus endorsement (S). 2. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with one to three years related experience and/or training preferred. 3. Must have ability to read and interpret documents, write reports and correspondence, speak effectively with staff, parents & community members, ability to calculate figures & amounts and apply concepts of basic algebra & geometry. 4. Applicant must have the ability to solve practical problems. 5. Must be able to work in a team environment.

Physical Demands:

1. While performing duties on the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls while communicating with others including talking and hearing. 2. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms. 3. Occasionally required to sit, yet most frequently required to squat, stoop or kneel, reach above head and reach forward. 4. Continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. 5. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as bus parts and chemical containers. 6. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 7. Required to hear conversations in both quiet and noisy environments. 8. Compensation:
