Our service center is best-in-class specializing in all brands of vac trucks and sweepers and offering mobile service technicians available to make calls to customer job sites across the region. Position Overview 502 Equipment is seeking a skilled, dependable, and customer-focused Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic to join our growing service team. This is primarily a field service position responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and supporting specialized trucks and equipment at customer locations throughout Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee. The ideal candidate is a strong troubleshooter who takes pride in their work, communicates well with customers, and can independently work through mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel-related issues. Our technicians represent 502 Equipment every time they arrive at a customer's facility, so professionalism, organization, and excellent customer service are essential. Key Responsibilities Field Service & Repair Diagnose and repair heavy-duty trucks and specialized municipal equipment. Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic systems. Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and scheduled services. Diagnose equipment failures and determine appropriate repair solutions. Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship. Perform equipment installations, adjustments, and component replacements. Test equipment following repairs to verify proper operation and safety. Troubleshooting & Technical Support Use diagnostic tools, schematics, service manuals, and manufacturer resources to identify equipment issues. Work directly with manufacturers when additional technical support is required. Identify the root cause of failures rather than simply replacing components. Communicate repair recommendations and additional service needs to the 502 Equipment service team. Customer Service Represent 502 Equipment professionally at customer facilities and job sites. Communicate clearly with customers regarding equipment issues, repair progress, and completed work. Help customers understand proper equipment operation and preventative maintenance. Build strong relationships with municipal, contractor, and utility customers. Work Orders & Documentation Accurately document all work performed on each service call. Record technician time, travel time, diagnostic time, and repair time accurately. Document all parts and materials used during repairs. Enter clear and detailed technician notes into ShopView. Document additional problems or recommended repairs discovered during service. Complete required documentation before closing out each service visit. Parts, Tools & Equipment Maintain assigned tools and diagnostic equipment. Maintain appropriate service truck inventory. Communicate parts needs to the Parts and Service teams. Account for parts used during each repair. Keep assigned service vehicle organized, clean, and ready for field service. Team Collaboration Work closely with Service, Parts, Sales, and Operations. Assist other technicians with troubleshooting when needed. Participate in manufacturer and product training. Share technical knowledge and best practices with the service team. Qualifications 3+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic, heavy equipment technician, field service technician, or pump/vac truck experience preferred. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic ability. Experience working with diesel engines and heavy-duty vehicles. Working knowledge of hydraulic systems and 12V/24V electrical systems. Ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics. Experience with vacuum trucks, sewer equipment, street sweepers, hydro-excavators, or municipal equipment is a plus. Welding and fabrication experience is a plus. Comfortable using computers, tablets, and digital work-order systems. Strong communication and customer-service skills. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. CDL preferred or willingness to obtain CDL. Clean motor vehicle record for past 5 years Ability to travel throughout the assigned territory, including occasional overnight travel. Pre-employment physical required.
