Job Summary:

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the mechanical and powertrain systems of luxury entertainment coaches. This role focuses on ensuring all buses operate safely, reliably, and efficiently for touring artists, production crews, and entertainment clients. This position works on a wide range of critical systems including diesel engines, transmissions, generators, drivetrains, and related mechanical and hydraulic components. The Diesel Mechanic plays a key role in maintaining fleet readiness and minimizing downtime for active tours and scheduled travel. Key Responsibilities Engine Maintenance & Repair Diagnose and repair diesel engine performance issues, including starting, power, fuel, cooling, and exhaust concerns Perform preventative maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, tune-ups, and fluid services Inspect engines for wear, leaks, or damage and complete necessary repairs or rebuilds Ensure all engine systems operate at peak performance and meet reliability standards Transmission & Drivetrain Systems Inspect, service, and repair automatic and manual transmissions in entertainment coaches Diagnose shifting issues, fluid problems, and mechanical failures in drivetrain components Repair or replace driveline components including driveshafts, differentials, and axles Ensure smooth, safe, and reliable power delivery across all operating conditions Generator & Auxiliary Power Systems Maintain and repair onboard generators and auxiliary power units used for coach amenities Troubleshoot electrical output issues, fuel supply problems, and mechanical failures Perform load testing and preventative maintenance on generator systems Ensure reliable power supply for lighting, HVAC, entertainment, and onboard systems Mechanical Systems & Components Repair and maintain braking systems, suspension systems, steering components, and fuel systems Inspect and service hydraulic and air systems used throughout the coach Replace worn or damaged mechanical parts to ensure safe operation Perform comprehensive vehicle inspections to identify potential issues before breakdowns Diagnostics & Problem Solving Use diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical and electronic system faults Interpret diagnostic data, schematics, and technical manuals to determine repair solutions Collaborate with other technicians to resolve complex mechanical issues Respond to breakdowns and road service calls as needed Preventative Maintenance & Fleet Support Perform scheduled maintenance on all assigned vehicles according to fleet requirements Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance performed Support fleet readiness by minimizing downtime through proactive servicing Communicate repair status and recommendations to shop leadership and operations teams Quality Control & Standards Ensure all repairs meet company safety, reliability, and performance standards Inspect completed work for accuracy and proper functionality Maintain consistency with manufacturer specifications and industry best practices Identify and correct deficiencies before vehicles are returned to service Collaboration & Communication Work closely with Shop Manager, other mechanics, parts staff, and operations teams Clearly communicate repair needs, timelines, and parts requirements Assist in coordinating emergency repairs for active tours and road breakdowns Support team members with technical expertise when needed Safety & Compliance Follow all OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and company safety regulations and procedures Properly use tools, lifting equipment, and diagnostic systems at all times Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment Immediately report safety hazards or equipment concerns Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; technical training in diesel technology preferred 2-5 years of experience working on diesel engines, commercial vehicles, buses, RVs, or similar equipment Strong understanding of diesel engine systems, transmissions, and generators Experience with diagnostic tools and electronic engine systems preferred Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams Valid driver's license required (CDL preferred depending on operational needs) Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills Desired Skills Diesel engine diagnostics and repair Transmission and drivetrain systems repair Generator and auxiliary power system maintenance Hydraulic, air, and fuel system troubleshooting Preventative maintenance planning Electronic diagnostic systems proficiency Mechanical problem-solving and critical thinking Attention to detail and quality workmanship Time management and efficiency Communication and teamwork Safety awareness and compliance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Engine, transmission, and generator reliability across fleet Repair turnaround time and downtime reduction First-time fix rate on mechanical issues Accuracy of diagnostics and repairs Reduction in roadside breakdowns Preventative maintenance completion rate Safety compliance and incident rate Quality and durability of completed repairs Efficiency of parts usage and repair planning Fleet readiness and availability What Success Looks Like Within the first 12 months, the Diesel Mechanic will have: Consistently delivered high-quality repairs across engines, transmissions, and generator systems Improved overall fleet reliability and reduced mechanical breakdowns Increased effectiveness of preventative maintenance programs Reduced repeat mechanical issues through accurate diagnostics and durable repairs Built strong working relationships with shop staff and operations teams Responded effectively to road calls and urgent repairs, minimizing tour disruptions Maintained a safe, organized, and efficient work environment Contributed to the company's reputation for reliable, high-performance entertainment coaches Compensation and Benefits Competitive hourly wage: $25-$40+ per hour, depending on experience and certifications.
