Job Overview The Fleet, Diesel & Industrial Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing Allen's Tri-State Mechanical's fleet of approximately 50 company vehicles, diesel-powered units, trailers, and associated industrial equipment. This position requires certified diesel mechanical capability and verifiable experience with industrial rotating equipment and hydraulic systems. The primary purpose of the position is to improve fleet and equipment reliability, reduce outside repair costs, minimize downtime, and establish a disciplined preventive maintenance program. Allen's Tri-State Mechanical supports HVAC/R, plumbing, electrical, line washing, pumping, appliance, and other mechanical service operations. The Fleet, Diesel & Industrial Equipment Mechanic will support these operations by maintaining gasoline and diesel fleet vehicles together with pumps, hydraulic systems, rotating equipment, trailers, and related field equipment used throughout the Company. The position is expected to perform work in-house when practical and coordinate specialized outside repairs when required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND

RESPONSIBILITIESFleet Maintenance and Repair

• Perform routine maintenance and mechanical repairs on company-owned trucks, vans, and other vehicles.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, starting, charging, cooling, steering, suspension, and brake system problems.
• Perform oil and filter changes, fluid services, brake repairs, battery replacement, belt and hose replacement, and other routine mechanical repairs.
• Diagnose check-engine lights and vehicle warning systems using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and identify developing problems before they result in breakdowns or major repairs.
• Inspect tires for wear, damage, and proper inflation and coordinate tire repair or replacement as necessary.
• Perform minor air-conditioning and heating system repairs when within the mechanic's qualifications and available equipment.
• Determine which repairs should be completed internally and which require a dealership or specialized outside repair facility. Equipment Maintenance
• Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair company-owned trailers, diesel-powered units, pumps, and operational equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repair on industrial rotating equipment, including pumps, motors, bearings, couplings, shafts, belts, seals, gearboxes, and related components.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, hoses, fittings, reservoirs, and related controls.
• Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, equipment manuals, service data, and technical specifications.
• Inspect and maintain small engines, pressure washers, generators, compressors, and similar field equipment as assigned.
• Inspect trailer brakes, bearings, lighting, wiring, tires, hitches, safety chains, and related components.
• Perform light welding or fabrication when qualified and appropriate to the repair.
• Coordinate specialized equipment repairs with approved outside vendors when required. Preventive Maintenance Program
• Establish and maintain a preventive maintenance schedule for company vehicles and applicable equipment.
• Track mileage, engine hours, service intervals, inspections, and scheduled maintenance.
• Maintain a current maintenance status for each assigned fleet vehicle.
• Proactively schedule maintenance to minimize disruption to field operations.
• Notify management when vehicles or equipment are approaching major service or repair requirements.
• Identify recurring mechanical problems and recommend corrective actions. Fleet Inspections
• Conduct periodic inspections of company vehicles for mechanical condition and general roadworthiness.
• Review reported vehicle deficiencies and determine appropriate corrective action.
• Immediately remove or recommend removal from service of vehicles or equipment presenting a significant safety concern.
• Verify required repairs have been satisfactorily completed before returning equipment to service when applicable. Repair Cost Management
• Evaluate repair needs and determine whether repairs can be performed economically in-house.
• Obtain management approval before initiating significant outside repairs.
• Review outside repair recommendations and estimates when requested.
• Coordinate with approved repair facilities, dealerships, tire vendors, and parts suppliers.
• Identify excessive or repetitive repair expenses and recommend corrective action.
• Provide recommendations regarding repair-versus-replacement decisions for high-cost or aging fleet vehicles. Parts and Inventory
• Maintain a reasonable inventory of commonly used maintenance parts and supplies.
• Purchase or coordinate the purchase of parts in accordance with company purchasing requirements.
• Maintain control and accountability for company-owned tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Maintain an organized, safe, and clean maintenance work area. Documentation
• Document maintenance and repairs performed on each vehicle or piece of equipment.
• Maintain service records, repair history, mileage, and preventive maintenance information.
• Document outside repair costs and significant parts purchases.
• Provide management with periodic fleet maintenance and repair status information.
• Identify vehicles experiencing excessive downtime or repair expense.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform all work in accordance with Allen's Tri-State Mechanical safety policies and procedures.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Follow proper lifting, blocking, jack stand, lockout/tagout, battery, electrical, and chemical-handling practices.
• Maintain the maintenance area in a clean and safe condition.
• Properly handle and dispose of used oil, fluids, batteries, filters, tires, and other regulated materials.
• Immediately report unsafe vehicle or equipment conditions to management.
• Do not return an unsafe vehicle or piece of equipment to service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum five years of verifiable professional experience in diesel, fleet, heavy equipment, or industrial equipment maintenance and repair.
• Current diesel mechanic certification from a recognized technical, manufacturer, or nationally recognized certification program is required. ASE Medium/Heavy Truck certification is strongly preferred.
• Verifiable experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing industrial rotating equipment is required.
• Verifiable experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems and components is required.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair light- and medium-duty gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment.
• Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical, cooling, charging, starting, fuel, and preventive maintenance systems.
• Working knowledge of pumps, motors, bearings, couplings, shafts, belts, seals, gearboxes, and related rotating equipment.
• Ability to diagnose hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, hoses, fittings, reservoirs, and related hydraulic components.
• Ability to use computerized automotive and diesel diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to read and understand service manuals, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, technical specifications, and equipment documentation.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Must provide or maintain basic personal mechanic hand tools as determined by the Company. Allen's will provide specialized, heavy, hydraulic, and fleet-specific diagnostic equipment as required.
• Trailer repair and maintenance experience is strongly preferred.
• CDL is preferred but not required unless operation of specific company equipment requires it.
• Welding and light fabrication experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to:

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work underneath vehicles and equipment.
• Safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with appropriate assistance or mechanical lifting equipment.
• Safely operate shop tools, vehicle lifts, jacks, diagnostic equipment, and other maintenance equipment.
• Work indoors and outdoors under varying environmental conditions.

MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

The Fleet, Diesel & Industrial Equipment Mechanic is authorized to recommend that a company vehicle or piece of equipment be removed from service when a mechanical condition creates a reasonable safety or reliability concern. Major repairs, vehicle replacement recommendations, significant parts purchases, and outside repair expenditures shall be coordinated with and approved by the appropriate Allen's Tri-State Mechanical manager.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS

The Fleet, Diesel & Industrial Equipment Mechanic is expected to take ownership of the overall mechanical condition of Allen's assigned fleet and industrial operating equipment, including diesel units, rotating equipment, and hydraulic systems. This position is intended to be proactive rather than reactive. The mechanic should identify maintenance needs and developing mechanical problems before they result in roadside failures, lost technician productivity, unnecessary towing, or significant repair expense.
