The Mechanic Assistant will support the mechanics in performing maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of vehicles, equipment, and machinery. This role involves assisting with tasks like preparing tools, parts, and equipment, conducting basic repairs, and ensuring that the workshop is organized and well-maintained. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented and reliable individual with a strong interest in mechanics and a willingness to learn and grow in the field.
Key Responsibilities :
Assist mechanics in performing maintenance and repairs on vehicles, machinery, or equipment. Organize and prepare tools, equipment, and parts for mechanics to use during repair work. Help with basic repair tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, and brake inspections. Clean and maintain the work area, ensuring it is safe, organized, and well-stocked with necessary tools and materials. Assist in diagnosing mechanical issues by listening to vehicles and machinery and providing information to the lead mechanic. Remove and replace parts, such as belts, filters, and spark plugs, under the supervision of a mechanic. Follow safety procedures and ensure that tools and equipment are used properly to prevent accidents. Perform routine maintenance checks on tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition. Maintain accurate records of parts used and work completed as instructed by the mechanic. Order and restock parts and supplies as needed. Help with customer vehicle drop-offs and pickups, including providing basic information about services performed. Assist in cleaning and maintaining service bays and ensuring all workspaces are neat and orderly. Support the mechanic in completing tasks on time and within budget.
Required Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent (some technical training or coursework in automotive/mechanical fields is a plus). Interest in automotive mechanics or machinery repair. Basic mechanical knowledge and hands-on experience (e.g., through school or personal projects). Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment. Willingness to learn and grow in the mechanic field. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to follow instructions and work under the guidance of senior mechanics. Strong work ethic and punctuality. Good physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects (up to [X] lbs) and work in a physically demanding environment.
Preferred Qualifications :
Previous experience working in an automotive shop, mechanic's garage, or similar environment. Basic understanding of vehicle systems (engine, transmission, brakes, etc.). Familiarity with safety protocols and standard operating procedures in a mechanic shop. Customer service skills to interact professionally with clients.
Work Environment :
The position requires working in a mechanic shop or repair facility with exposure to potentially noisy, hot, and busy conditions. May involve standing for long periods, bending, lifting, and working in confined spaces. Shift will be discussed with applicant.
