This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to DOT regulations.
Specific responsibilities include:
1.
Work Planning:
Review work orders to determine tasks and required timelines. Utilize technical manuals, charts, and diagnostic tools to plan and execute repair procedures efficiently. 2.
Vehicle Inspection:
Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles, focusing on key systems such as the engine, transmission, steering mechanism, brake system, suspension, exhaust, and lighting systems. Identify potential safety or operational concerns during inspections. 3.
Diagnostic Testing:
Use diagnostic equipment and software to interpret test results and pinpoint mechanical or electrical problems. Troubleshoot complex issues using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques. 4.
Repairs:
Repair or replace malfunctioning parts, such as engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, and other critical components. Address both mechanical and electrical issues, ensuring compliance with industry and DOT standards. 5.
Preventative Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, fluid checks, tire rotations, and battery servicing. Execute major and minor engine repairs as needed, including working on vehicle electrical systems. 6.
Test Driving and Quality Assurance:
Test-drive vehicles post-repair to confirm issues are resolved and ensure smooth operation. Conduct final inspections to verify that all work meets quality and safety standards. 7.
Record Keeping:
Maintain detailed and accurate service records for all vehicles inspected or repaired. Log diagnostic results, repairs performed, parts replaced, and any adjustments made. 8.
Inventory Management:
Monitor and manage inventory of tools, equipment, and parts to ensure availability for repairs. Coordinate with procurement teams to restock as needed. 9.
Workplace Cleanliness and Safety:
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to workplace safety protocols. Properly dispose of hazardous materials and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. 10.
Regulatory Compliance:
Stay up to date with DOT regulations and industry standards. Ensure that all vehicles and maintenance practices comply with applicable laws and regulations.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Diesel Technician or similar role. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical systems, and electrical systems. Proficiency with diagnostic tools, repair equipment, and technical manuals. Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple repair tasks simultaneously. Excellent communication and record-keeping skills. Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety requirements.
