Big Rigs Tanker Service, Inc. is looking for a Heavy-Duty Class 8 Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team. We prefer candidates with approximately 2-5 years of hands-on Class 8 experience, but we are also willing to consider an entry-level mechanic with relevant diesel training, strong mechanical aptitude, and a willingness to learn. We maintain our own fleet of approximately 40 commercial trucks and trailers, including Peterbilt and Kenworth tractors, tanker trailers, flatbeds, and related equipment. Our maintenance team is responsible for keeping our equipment safe, reliable, DOT-compliant, and on the road. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, understands the importance of safe and accurate repairs, and can develop into (or already is) a dependable Class 8 mechanic. Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on Class 8 trucks and trailers Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, brake, suspension, steering, and related systems Perform commercial truck and trailer tire mounting, dismounting, inspection, repair, and replacement Identify abnormal tire wear and related suspension or mechanical concerns Perform or assist with DOT inspections and required repairs Troubleshoot equipment issues and determine appropriate repair solutions Maintain accurate records of repairs, labor, parts, inspections, and maintenance performed Move company vehicles within the yard and shop as needed for maintenance and diagnostics Road-test company vehicles when properly licensed and authorized Respond to occasional roadside service calls and operate the company service truck Safely operate jacks, hoists, forklifts, power tools, and other shop equipment Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Communicate equipment condition, repair needs, and completed work to the Shop Foreman Roadside service, equipment movement, repair documentation, and safe operation of shop equipment are also part of the Company's existing maintenance role. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED Mechanical aptitude and basic knowledge of heavy-duty diesel and commercial vehicle systems Ability and willingness to perform commercial truck and trailer tire work Strong attention to safety and quality Ability to follow repair procedures and instructions Ability to accurately document work performed Ability to communicate effectively with drivers, the Shop Foreman, and other employees Ability to work independently as skills and experience allow Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required. This position includes moving company vehicles, responding to roadside service calls, and operating a company service truck Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 75 pounds The physical demands of the existing maintenance position also include working under and around vehicles, kneeling, crouching, working in tight spaces, and using hand and power tools. Preferred Qualifications 2-5 years of verifiable Class 8 diesel mechanic experience Experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty commercial trucks and trailers Commercial truck and trailer tire mounting, dismounting, and repair experience Working knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, suspension, steering, hydraulics, and related heavy-duty components Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills Class A CDL with appropriate endorsements Experience with Peterbilt and Kenworth equipment Experience with tanker trailers Cummins and/or CAT experience or training Experience with fleet maintenance software and electronic maintenance records Schedule This is a full-time position working five 8-hour shifts per week. Saturday is a regularly scheduled workday Two scheduled days off per week Overtime and roadside support may occasionally be required based on business needs Compensation & Benefits $25.00-$34.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
