Job Description

Job Summary The Public Works Commission is seeking a skilled Substation Technician to support the construction, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical substations and associated equipment throughout our electric transmission and distribution system. This position is ideal for candidates with electrical maintenance experience who enjoy hands-on work, troubleshooting complex equipment, and contributing to the reliable delivery of electric service to our community. Preferred Knowledge & Skills Knowledge of electrical maintenance practices and safety procedures. Experience using tools, equipment, and materials associated with substation construction and maintenance. Ability to learn and apply electrical theory related to transformers, switches, circuit breakers, and other power system equipment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the maintenance, modification, or repair of electrical facilities. Additional Requirements Functional Employment Test (FET) required. Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Availability to work extended hours and respond to on-call assignments as needed. Why Join PWC?
