Job Description
Here's The Role As a Meter Technician II, you join our team as a field expert, and you'll ensure the precision of the critical infrastructure measuring power flow across the grid. In this intermediate role, we trust you to perform the complex setup, testing, and integration of revenue meters and instrument transformers within electric substation environments. We rely on your expertise to maintain long-term infrastructure reliability by conducting repairs and routine checks on demand mechanisms and testing tools. We will look to you to use vendor software to configure equipment and integrate systems into LCRA and 3rd-party networks for remote access, all while we work to meticulously handle records that meet strict NERC and ERCOT standards. Beyond the hardware, we value you as a key collaborator, working with our engineering and telecommunications teams to support large-scale projects and evaluate the technologies crafting the future of energy. How You'll Contribute Work with others to commission and test meters, ensuring every kilowatt-hour moving through the substation is recorded accurately to protect our revenue stream. Maintain a critical defense for compliance standards by documenting maintenance and test results to stay in full alignment with NERC and ERCOT requirements. Integrate meters into LCRA and 3rd-party networks to enable remote configurations, which reduces physical site visits and accelerates our response times. Manage equipment stocks and tools so that when a field failure occurs, functional, "ready-to-go" hardware is available for immediate restoration. Assist engineering teams in evaluating new technologies, providing hands-on feedback that directly dictates the quality and durability of future hardware. How You're Qualified Three or more years of experience in the construction and/or maintenance of power substation protection, diagnostic, metering, monitoring and/or control systems or relevant experience. A degree(s) in electrical power theory, electronics, instrumentation, controls, computer science or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience. Driver's license How You'll Stand Out Demonstrate a strong grasp of NERC and ERCOT reporting to show readiness for high-stakes documentation. Highlight experience with SubWAN, MV90, or telecommunications protocols to troubleshoot the "communication" side of a meter effectively. Emphasize an ability to solve sophisticated problems independently and lead a small crew or work solo safely at remote sites. Showcase specific experience using vendor programming software to configure the digital "brains" of metering equipment. Prove a "safety-first" approach in high-voltage environments, such as leading tailboard meetings or implementing rigorous safety protocols. How We'll Support You Benefits that don't just check boxes, they make life better. From healthcare to wellness to time off, we've got you covered, so you can focus on what matters.
