Job Description

Position Summary The Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating systems, cleaning systems, and related peripheral equipment at customer facilities throughout North America and internationally. This position requires extensive travel and direct customer interaction to ensure equipment performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction. In addition to field service activities, the Service Engineer provides technical training, remote support, and detailed service documentation. The successful candidate will be highly organized, technically skilled, customer-focused, and capable of working independently while maintaining close communication with the Service Manager and service team. The Service Engineer reports directly to the Service Manager. Service Engineer Key Responsibilities 1. Installation, Maintenance & Repair
  • Travel to customer facilities to install, commission, and service PVD coating systems, cleaning systems, and peripheral equipment included in PLATIT's turnkey solutions.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance in accordance with PLATIT service standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve mechanical, electrical, vacuum, pneumatic, and process-related equipment issues.
  • Perform repairs, component replacements, and system upgrades as required.
  • Respond promptly to emergency service requests to minimize customer downtime.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and applicable industry regulations. 2. Customer Training & Technical Support
  • Provide comprehensive on-site and remote training to customers regarding equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Conduct hands-on training sessions to ensure customers can operate equipment safely, efficiently, and independently.
  • Develop, update, and maintain training materials, operating procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Serve as a technical resource for customers, helping optimize equipment performance and operational efficiency. 3. Service Planning & Coordination
  • Independently plan and coordinate assigned service visits, installations, and maintenance activities with customers.
  • Schedule service activities while considering customer production requirements and operational needs.
  • Communicate service schedules, project updates, and work scope clearly with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with colleagues and management to ensure proper resource allocation and project execution. 4. Remote Technical Support
  • Provide remote technical support via phone, email, video conferencing, and remote-access tools when not traveling.
  • Diagnose equipment issues remotely and guide customers through troubleshooting and corrective actions.
  • Escalate complex technical issues when necessary and collaborate with internal engineering and service teams.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, service activities, and resolutions. 5. Documentation & Continuous Improvement
  • Utilize company reporting systems, service tickets, and documentation templates to accurately record service activities and customer communications.
  • Prepare detailed service reports following each customer visit.
  • Share technical knowledge and lessons learned with the service team to support continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service procedures, documentation, training programs, and equipment reliability. 6. Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, customer safety requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Maintain a safe working environment at customer facilities, company offices, and during travel.
  • Participate in required safety training and certifications.
  • Stay current on industry developments, safety regulations, and technological advancements related to PVD coating technology and associated equipment. 7. Communication & Reporting
  • Provide regular updates to the Service Manager regarding project status, service activities, customer feedback, and technical concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, vendors, and management.
  • Support service-related initiatives and contribute to the achievement of departmental goals and performance metrics.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and service efficiency. Service Engineer Qualifications Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Electronics, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing PVD coating systems or other complex industrial equipment.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, remote support platforms, and service management/ticketing systems.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a passport for international travel.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively, both domestically and internationally, including extended assignments. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with vacuum technology, thin-film coating processes, plasma technology, or semiconductor/manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience with PLCs, industrial controls, automation systems, or electrical troubleshooting.
  • Previous field service engineering experience in a customer-facing environment.

Time Management Pay:
$85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
