What This Role Does The Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Drop Lead is responsible for leading a two-person drop crew that installs underground or aerial fiber drops from the distribution network to customer homes and businesses. This role ensures drop work is completed safely, efficiently, and to TCW standards while serving as the primary field decision-maker and point of communication for the crew. The FTTH Drop Lead is also responsible for splicing and terminating fiber at both ends of the drop, including network-side terminals and customer-side connections, to ensure reliable service activation and quality signal performance. What This Role Owns- Daily leadership and coordination of the FTTH drop crew
- Installation of underground and aerial fiber drops to residential and business customers
- On-site decision-making related to routing, restoration, and installation quality
- Safe operation and care of company trucks, trailers, plows, and drop equipment
- Communication with Dispatch, Operations, and customers regarding job status and issues
- Proper restoration, cleanup, and customer property care after completed work
- Material usage, inventory accountability, and documentation accuracy
- Training and development of the Drop Technician assigned to the crew
- Splicing and terminating fiber at both the distribution terminal and customer premise side of the drop
- Testing completed drops to verify signal quality and proper activation before job completion What Success in This Role Looks Like
- Drop installations are completed safely, efficiently, and correctly the first time
- Customers receive professional communication and quality workmanship
- Minimal damage claims, callbacks, or restoration issues
- Crews consistently meet production and quality expectations
- Work sites are clean, organized, and properly restored
- Equipment and vehicles are maintained and cared for properly
- Drop Technicians improve in skill and independence through mentorship
- Fiber drops are properly spliced, tested, and activated with minimal service issues or callbacks
- Signal levels and splice quality consistently meet TCW standards What We're Looking For
- Experience with FTTH drop installation, underground utility work, or telecom construction
- Ability to lead a small field crew and make sound field decisions
- Experience operating plows, trailers, trenching, or utility equipment preferred
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and physical conditions
- Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and job-site professionalism
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Willingness to train and mentor less experienced crew members
- Experience with FTTH drop splicing, termination, and basic fiber testing
- Familiarity with terminals, ONTs, and customer-side fiber connections Expectations for TCW Fiber Employees
