$25-$35 per hour, negotiable within this range based on experience, Xactimate proficiency, and mitigation estimating and negotiation skills. About the Role Flood Response is seeking an experienced Mitigation Estimator & Negotiations Specialist to prepare, review, and negotiate estimates for water, fire, mold, and related mitigation services. We need someone who understands mitigation work, can independently write accurate Xactimate estimates, and can confidently support our scope and charges when working with insurance adjusters, third-party reviewers, and program representatives. This is not an entry-level position. Strong, hands-on Xactimate proficiency is an absolute requirement. Prior insurance adjuster experience is a plus. The right candidate is organized, dependable, and persistent with follow-up. You should be comfortable managing multiple files, identifying missing documentation, responding to disputed charges, and moving estimates toward resolution without constant supervision. Required Qualifications 3+ years of hands-on Xactimate estimating experience , including mitigation estimates. You must be able to build, review, and revise estimates independently—not simply have general familiarity with the software. Restoration or mitigation industry experience , with an understanding of emergency services, drying equipment, demolition, containment, cleaning, and the documentation needed to support the work performed. Strong communication and negotiation skills , including the ability to professionally discuss scope, quantities, equipment usage, labor, and pricing with adjusters and estimate reviewers. Excellent organization, reliability, and follow-through. You must be able to prioritize multiple active files, meet deadlines, maintain clear records, and communicate effectively with field teams and office staff. Xactimate proficiency is mandatory. Key Responsibilities Prepare accurate mitigation estimates. Build detailed Xactimate estimates using field scopes, measurements, sketches, photographs, technician notes, and project documentation. Perform site inspections and scoping when needed. Review and strengthen supporting documentation. Evaluate moisture readings, drying logs, equipment records, labor documentation, and photographs. Identify missing information and coordinate with the field team to resolve gaps. Negotiate estimates and invoices. Work directly with insurance adjusters, third-party administrators, and reviewers to resolve scope and pricing differences. Support legitimate charges with clear documentation and professional communication. Manage revisions, disputes, and supplements. Review proposed reductions, respond to disputed items, and prepare corrections or justified supplements promptly. Bring unresolved disputes and proposed concessions to management when necessary. Keep files moving toward billing and closeout. Track submissions, revisions, outstanding responses, and disputed amounts. Maintain consistent follow-up and coordinate with billing staff to address invoicing and payment-related questions. Collaborate with operations. Work closely with mitigation managers, technicians, project managers, and office staff to improve documentation, address estimating issues early, and support timely project resolution. Preferred Experience Prior experience as an insurance adjuster, mitigation estimator, or mitigation invoice reviewer is a strong plus. Experience with insurance program requirements, third-party administrators, and mitigation billing disputes is also valuable.
