The Field Service Technician provides on-site service and warranty support at customer locations throughout the company's service territory. This position is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, adjusting, repairing, and replacing components associated with exterior pre-hung door units to ensure proper operation and performance. The Field Service Technician must be comfortable working in a variety of environments, including homeowner residences and construction sites, and must have a thorough understanding of Harris Door and Millwork products and installation standards. The technician is also responsible for accurately documenting service calls, including work performed, parts used or required, product conditions, and other relevant information needed for warranty processing and future service requirements. Exceptional customer service, professionalism, dependability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are essential to success in this position.
Job Responsibilities:
Travel to customer locations, typically homeowner residences, to perform service and warranty-related work. Conduct thorough inspections of exterior pre-hung door units, gather relevant information, and verify proper installation in accordance with company procedures and applicable industry standards. Troubleshoot and perform repairs and adjustments to ensure proper door operation and functionality in accordance with Harris Door and Millwork SOPs. Replace lite kits and lite kit frames, including careful deglazing and reglazing procedures. Replace mull posts, brick mold, doors, and other components when necessary. Repair or replace door components, including hinges, weatherstripping, sweeps, and related hardware. Troubleshoot, repair, and install Rockwell and Hoppe multipoint locking systems. Bore doors and mortise jambs as required for hardware installation or replacement. Install clavos, peepholes, door knockers, and other decorative or functional hardware. Perform general construction tasks as necessary when removing and installing pre-hung door units. Prepare a clear and detailed summary of each service call, documenting work performed, parts used or required, product conditions, and other relevant information for warranty purposes and future service needs. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while representing Harris Door and Millwork at customer locations. Provide exceptional customer service and arrive on time for scheduled appointments. Properly maintain the company vehicle, including keeping tools organized and ensuring necessary products and parts are properly stocked. Ensure all necessary products, tools, and parts are available and ready for scheduled service calls. Conduct quality-control inspections of service parts and products prior to scheduled appointments. Attend weekly and monthly department meetings to discuss service issues, corrective actions, planning, quality-control concerns, and product performance. Work closely with Production to ensure replacement parts are repaired or manufactured according to work-order specifications. Work closely with Quality Control to identify and report manufacturing defects, product issues, and recurring quality concerns. Assist the Sales Department with special-service requests, customer goodwill efforts, and urgent projects as directed by management. Communicate with customers and homeowners by phone as needed to troubleshoot product issues and provide guidance or assistance. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Experience & Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Demonstrated knowledge of door construction, manufacturing, and installation processes. Construction experience and/or knowledge of pre-hung door installation preferred. Experience working with hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment. Ability to read and understand work orders and sales orders for product and parts replacement. Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams. Ability to accurately enter, retrieve, and maintain information within the Insight Pro warranty platform. Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional and customer-focused approach. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with homeowners, customers, dealers, and internal departments. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple service calls effectively. Dependable, reliable, trustworthy, and capable of working independently. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to lift and handle materials weighing approximately 75-100 pounds. Valid state-issued driver's license and a clean driving record required. Ability and willingness to travel regularly to customer locations throughout the assigned service territory. Ability to work in varying environments, including residential homes, construction sites, outdoor conditions, and other job-site settings. This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, lifting, carrying, and use of hand and power tools. The technician must be able to safely handle doors, door units, tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to approximately 75-100 pounds. The position requires working in varying weather conditions and environments, including residential and construction sites. Appropriate safety practices and personal protective equipment must be used as required.
