A Field Service Technician services and repairs equipment and machines in a variety of customer locations such as residential, commercial, or industrial settings. Workers in this field can specialize in the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of industrial, hardware, construction or electronic equipment just to name a few. These roles may work in a variety of remote locations and can travel up to multiple locations in a day.
Position Summary Pump Dynamics is hiring a Senior Field Service Technician to perform field maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and commissioning of industrial rotating equipment at customer facilities.
This is a senior-level position:
the technician is expected to work independently at customer sites, serve as a technical resource for the service team, and mentor apprentice technicians. Work includes scheduled preventative maintenance and predictive maintenance route collection as well as emergency repair and failure analysis on pumps, electric motors, and complete pumping systems. Occasional overnight travel is required. Position reports to Service Manager, Pump Dynamics What the Company Provides Service vehicle. A company service truck is provided, fueled and maintained, and is take-home. Tooling. All tooling and diagnostic systems are company-provided, including laser alignment systems, vibration analyzers, field machining equipment, and specialty tooling. Training and certification. The company pays for training and certifications that expand or maintain the technician's capabilities, including vibration analysis, balancing, and rigging. Travel expenses. Hotels and flights are arranged and paid directly by the office. Overnight travel includes per diem based on the metro rate for the location. Drive time. Drive time is paid in accordance with applicable wage-and-hour law. PPE. Annual boot allowance; all other required PPE is provided. Key Responsibilities Perform precision laser shaft alignment on pumps, motors, and other rotating equipment. Conduct vibration analysis and diagnose equipment condition. Perform dynamic balancing of rotating equipment. Rebuild and repair centrifugal and positive displacement pumps. Remove, install, and align electric motors of various sizes. Replace and troubleshoot mechanical seals and sealing systems. Analyze, inspect, and replace bearings, identifying root causes of failure. Collect predictive maintenance data, including vibration routes and equipment condition assessments. Troubleshoot pumps, electric motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and complete pumping systems. Perform field machining, precision measurements, and equipment inspections. Execute safe rigging and lifting practices using proper equipment and procedures. Perform equipment commissioning, startup, testing, and performance verification. Provide technical support and recommendations to customers in the field. Prepare detailed service reports documenting findings, repairs, and recommendations. Mentor and train apprentice technicians and serve as a technical resource to the service team. Maintain company tools, equipment, and service vehicle in safe working condition. Follow all company and customer site safety requirements. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Five or more years servicing industrial rotating equipment, pumps, or electric motors. Demonstrated experience with pump rebuilds and mechanical seal replacement. Experience removing and installing electric motors. Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills. Ability to read mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical documentation. Familiarity with precision measurement tools and alignment equipment. Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to customers. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to travel to customer sites and work overtime as required. Preferred Qualifications Candidates without these certifications are encouraged to apply; the company pays for training and certification. Vibration Analysis Category I or II certification. Dynamic balancing experience or certification. Predictive maintenance program experience. Field machining experience. Rigging and crane operation experience. VFD troubleshooting and motor control systems experience. Millwright, industrial maintenance, or rotating equipment background. Physical Requirements Lift up to 75 pounds. Stand, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in industrial environments for extended periods. Work in varying weather conditions and inside manufacturing facilities. Wear required personal protective equipment. Travel to customer sites and occasionally work nights or weekends based on customer needs. Pre-Employment Screening Employment is contingent on a criminal background check, motor vehicle record (MVR) check, and a non-DOT drug screen. Random drug testing is an ongoing requirement of this position.
