Donald Smith Company is hiring a full-time Shop Mechanic in Headland, AL . Donald Smith Company is a family-owned and operated water well drilling and pump repair company that has been in business for over 80 years . As a Shop Mechanic , you'll be responsible for keeping the equipment our crews depend on running safely and reliably. You'll maintain and service drilling rigs, pump rigs, trucks, trailers, and other equipment while handling preventive maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and general shop duties. Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain service rigs, pump equipment, trucks, and trailers Perform scheduled preventive maintenance across the company fleet Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air systems, and electrical systems Repair and rebuild pumps and related components Perform welding and light fabrication as needed Order and track parts and maintain inventory of common shop supplies and consumables Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records Respond to field breakdowns when needed Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment Qualifications 5+ years of hands-on experience with heavy equipment, diesel trucks, or industrial machinery Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems Valid driver's license and clean driving record Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check Ability to lift 50+ pounds, work in awkward positions, and stand for extended periods Preferred Experience — Not Required Experience with drilling rigs, pump systems, or water well equipment Welding and fabrication experience CDL Class A or B Hydraulic certification or manufacturer training Experience mentoring junior technicians Hours & Travel Monday-Friday Home every night Primarily shop-based with minimal travel Occasional field service and breakdown response may be required Benefits Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance 401(k) Paid vacation 8 paid holidays Career growth opportunities If you are an experienced mechanic looking for a stable opportunity with a long-established, family-owned company, apply today to learn more about a career with Donald Smith Company!
