Heavy Equipment Service Technician Century Equipment Company - Durango, CO Full-Time | Onsite / Field Job Overview Century Equipment Company is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Service Technician to join our team in Durango, CO . In this role, you will be responsible for the inspection, diagnostic troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair of a wide range of heavy construction and industrial machinery. The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical aptitude, expertise in diesel engines and hydraulic systems, and proficiency with electronic diagnostic equipment (including multimeter/ohmmeter usage and OEM diagnostic software). Perform thorough diagnostic evaluations on heavy machinery to identify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical failures.
Repairs & Overhauls:
Complete repairs, component replacements, and system overhauls on diesel engines, transmissions, drive trains, hydraulic pumps/valves, and undercarriages in a timely manner.
Electrical Diagnostics:
Utilize diagnostic tools, multimeters, ohmmeters, and schematic diagrams to trace and resolve electrical circuit and sensor issues.
Preventive Maintenance:
Conduct routine machinery inspections, oil/fluid testing, filter changes, and regular PM servicing to prevent downtime.
Work Orders & Documentation:
Maintain detailed and accurate records of service activities, work orders, parts usage, and repair descriptions.
Customer & Team Collaboration:
Communicate effectively with service managers, parts specialists, and customers to explain diagnostic findings and repair recommendations.
Safety & Compliance:
Strictly adhere to OSHA, company safety protocols, and proper hazardous materials handling guidelines at all times.
Field & Shop Support:
Perform shop repairs and respond to field service calls using company-provided service trucks and tools as needed.
Required Qualifications Experience:
2+ years of hands-on experience in heavy equipment repair, diesel mechanics, or agricultural machinery maintenance.
Technical Skills:
Strong background in diesel engine diagnostics, hydraulic systems, power trains, and mobile electrical systems ($12\text{V}/24\text{V}$).
Diagnostic Tools:
Proficiency in using diagnostic software, handheld scan tools, ohmmeters, and digital multimeters.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs, work in outdoor weather conditions, and maneuver around heavy machinery safely.
Licensing:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (Commercial Driver's License - Class A or B preferred or willing to obtain).
Tools:
Must possess a standard set of heavy mechanic hand tools. Preferred Qualifications Technical degree or vocational certification in Diesel Technology or Heavy Equipment Repair. Factory certifications or prior experience with major equipment lines (e.g., CASE, Kubota, Caterpillar, John Deere, Bobcat). Basic welding and metal fabrication skills.
