Full Time Open Until Filled.REQUIREMENTS
: Experience in heavy equipment mechanics with diesel engine experience is required for all levels. Completion of coursework in heavy equipment mechanics or a closely related field at a postsecondary school may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of one (1) year (1,080 class hours [1 school year] = 1 year of experience; 120 class hours = 1 month of experience). Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted one for the other on a year-for-year basis.Solid Waste Mechanic I :
Three (3) years of experience in heavy equipment mechanics, including one (1) year of diesel engine mechanics.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
: Must possess or obtain within six (6) months of employment, a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess or obtain within twelve (12) months of employment, the following ASE certifications and maintain them in an active status during employment: T2- Diesel Engines; T4
- Brakes; and T7
- Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
Solid Waste Mechanic II :
Six (6) years of experience in heavy equipment mechanics, including two (2) years of diesel engine mechanics; OR two (2) years as a Brevard County Solid Waste Mechanic I or Heavy Equipment Mechanic I with a current performance evaluation rating of 3.5 or higher.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess the following ASE certifications and maintain them in an active status during employment: T2- Diesel Engines; T3
- Drive Trains; T4
- Brakes; T6
- Electrical/Electronic Systems; and T7
- Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
Solid Waste Mechanic III :
Eight (8) years of experience in heavy equipment mechanics, including three (3) years of diesel engine mechanics; OR two (2) years as a Brevard County Solid Waste Mechanic II or Heavy Equipment Mechanic II with a current performance evaluation rating of 3.5 or higher; OR four (4) years of experience as a Brevard County Solid Waste Mechanic I or Heavy Equipment Mechanic I with a current performance evaluation rating of 3.5 or higher.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess the following Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications and maintain them in an active status during employment: T1- Gasoline Engines; T2
- Diesel Engines; T3
- Drivetrain; T4
- Brakes; T5
- Suspension and Steering; T6
- Electrical Systems; T7
- Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning; and T8
- Preventative Maintenance Inspection.
