Job Description

Summary:
This is a non OTETA position. Duties include performing routine skilled work in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of automotive and related equipment.
DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS

Responsibilities:
Make repairs to complex automotive equipment such as overhauling gasoline or diesel engines, repairing transmissions, and making major modifications or under direction perform repairs to automotive equipment such as tuning engines, repairing brakes, adjusting transmissions, and other routine maintenance. Duties are performed under the general supervision of an immediate supervisor who evaluates performance through observation of work, periodic conferences, critiques, and/or records and reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties and/or projects may be assigned. Repair automobiles, trucks, sweepers, heavy equipment, and other automotive equipment. Repair, overhaul, or replace transmissions, valves, clutches, brakes, generators, ignition systems, and all other automotive parts and equipment. Perform some body and fender repair work. Perform periodic inspections and tunes up equipment to insure proper functioning. May perform emergency road servicing, drive fueling trucks to construction sites, and grease and fuel heavy equipment on construction sites. Check lubricant and water levels and fills or changes them as required. Perform related duties as required.

Experience:
Four (4) years of work experience as a general mechanic.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
Must have a Class "E" Driver's License and comply with HCPS Safe Driver Plan. Phase II Class B Driver's License must be obtained within 90 days of hire date.
Language Skills:
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of individuals.
Mathematical Skills:
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
Microsoft Office
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires the following physical activities: Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling, handling, keyboarding, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, depth perception, color vision and field of vision. This position requires the following lifting demands: Up to 70 pounds; over 70 pounds must be 2 person or assited lift. This position requires the following reaching activities: Both dominant and non-dominant hand; Overhead. This position involves the following environmental conditions: Extreme Cold; Extreme Heat; Wet/Humid; Noise Intensity 4: loud; Work with cleaning chemicals
  • wear eye protection; Vibration/Impact; Work with or near heavy equipment; Proximity to Moving Mechanical Parts; Exposure to Electrical Shock; Working in High Exposed Places.

Testing:
Eligibility for interview requires the successful passing of a written and/or physical test verifying knowledge of basic terms and/or tools and their use.
