This is a hands-on combination role covering parts, shop and field support, basic maintenance, service writing, and billing . We need someone who understands the heavy-duty repair environment and is comfortable jumping between responsibilities based on what needs to get done. This is not a full mechanic position, but mechanical knowledge is required. Prior railroad or hi-rail experience is helpful but not required. What You'll Do Source, price, pick up, and deliver heavy-duty truck, trailer, and equipment parts. Track down hard-to-find parts and communicate with vendors regarding pricing, availability, orders, and returns. Maintain parts inventory and identify restocking needs. Deliver parts, tools, and supplies to mechanics working at customer or field locations. Perform basic inspections and maintenance such as replacing bulbs and filters, completing regens, and handling similar minor service items. Assist mechanics on two-person jobs, working under the mechanic's direction for more advanced repairs. Handle vehicle intake and create or maintain repair orders. Review technician notes and completed work for billing. Create invoices and billing orders and ensure parts and labor are properly documented. Communicate with customers and vendors by phone and email. Help coordinate vehicles, parts, equipment, and active work throughout the shop and yard. Ability to safely perform basic maintenance and inspections. Strong parts research and sourcing skills. Comfortable using computers for repair orders, invoicing, email, and vendor systems. Strong organization, communication, and follow-through. Ability to work independently and manage changing priorities. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred experience:
Heavy-duty parts, service writing, repair invoicing, fleet maintenance, railroad, or hi-rail equipment. About the Role This position is best suited for someone who knows their way around a heavy-duty repair operation but doesn't necessarily want to work as a full-time mechanic. You may spend part of the day tracking down and delivering a part to a field technician, assist a mechanic with a two-person repair, return to the shop to complete an inspection or regen, and then finish repair orders for billing. If you're mechanically knowledgeable, resourceful, organized, and comfortable wearing several hats to keep a repair operation moving, we'd like to hear from you.
