Performs basic semiskilled work carrying out a variety of mechanical repair tasks such as testing, inspecting, lubricating, repairing, and rebuilding all types of automotive equipment and machinery, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work performed under the fleet supervisor. Assists in the performance of preventative maintenance and repairs on small engines, cars, trucks, buses and other automotive and power-driven equipment; includes dismantling, adjusting, overhauling, servicing, troubleshooting and testing electrical systems, machinery and equipment as necessary. Completes builds for new equipment. Fabricates and repairs small items for other departments as necessary. Prepares records, reports and analyzing written or computer data

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED equivalent 1 year experience repairing and overhauling a variety of automotive and other power-drive equipment.

Special Requirements:

ASE Certifications A4 & A5 or T4 & T5 within two years of hire. Valid Class "A" Commercial driver's license within 3 months of hire. Must possess basic tools as required to work on equipment. Valid driver's license in the State of Michigan. This work requires frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, sitting, bending, reaching, hand dexterity (grasping, holding, keyboarding, repetitive movements), reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, seeing (near and/or far, color, depth, field of vision), hearing, using the telephone, contact with government officials and the general public, working overtime, and working inside and alone. Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to fumes or airborne particles, frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
